Phantom to change to "re-staged" production in flagship productions?

I’ve been friendly with and know the woman who has been credited as the associate scenic designer for the Broadway production when it came to Broadway (as well as all the subsequent sit downs the show had in its hay day.) She and I were talking and she said that the new production was one she came up with about 20 years ago  for the us tour. They were looking for a way to tour the show that could fit smaller markets as well as big ones. That never came into fruition but that is the basis of the new physical production in London.

Sorry if this has been discussed but I notice they actually don’t even credit Hal Prince anymore as Director of the West End Phantom. He gets an ‘original production’ credit but not ‘this production’. For those that are intimately familiar with the show, is this a fair representation of the show? (Seth Skylar-Heyn has the credit)

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

There is some sort of filming going on, per Emilie and John’s Instagram Stories…anyone know what for?

I would assume updated B-roll?

I usually assume B-roll for these kinds of things, but it’s interesting that they’d be using Emilie since she’s the alternate. I would love her to become full-time principle Christine, if this is some sort of indication of that.

Don’t quote me, but I believe the show had to change the credits based on rules with the SDC. Since the reopening is technically a new mounting, they had to go through full rehearsals and what not, so since Seth Skyla-Heyn was the leading director through that process he has to get that credit.

It's probably a ploy to get around paying the original percentage of royalties to Prince's estate.

Hi all and Happy 2022 to my fellow phans!

Phantom just released a new set of tickets through September 4, 2022!

It looks like as of mid-March, the show officially switches back to 8pm curtains as opposed to the 7pm curtain since re-opening. It also looks like they are sticking with Tuesday as dark as opposed to Sunday, with the Sunday show being at 5pm. I wonder how they landed on 5pm for the Sunday curtain time? I would imagine it's so that more locals can see the show and get home at a reasonable hour, and it's also a bit of counterprogramming to most Sunday shows being at 3pm.

Looks like it may have been since she will be taking over the role.

That's welcome news. I've often wished Phantom did Sunday performances because I'm much more likely to be in NY on a Sunday than a Tuesday.
