It is the recent UK Tour that got some great reviews, and played the West End. Starts April 7th

I'm still waiting for some streaming service to pick up Bandstand.  (I mean, I've been waiting since November 2018, but if it would ever happen, it would be now.)

Bandstand and Allegiance would be nice. I'll probably still watch Fame too. I've never seen the stage version. What else is there to do?

Really liked the Off-Broadway version that played in 2003. It looks like it's the same show so will definitely tune in. One of those shows that critics love to hate but are really fun!

Saw the 1999 tour and enjoyed it more than I expected to.

Saw a high school production and thought it was terrible. Not just the specific production - I found the material itself to be dreadful regardless of how talented or untalented the kids were.

Don’t hold your breath for Bandstand seeing the light of day. The show was not filmed for commercial release, and they barely got away with doing the Fathom event.

Wasn't it shown in movie theaters several times?

Yes. The footage that was used for this (the Fathom events) was explicitly not for commercial use. An agreement was reached retroactively between the producers and the appropriate unions, and my understanding is that it only included the Fathom events - hence no physical, digital, or streaming release.

Wait, really? I don’t understand how that could even happen. There are already several contracts and people it has to go through even IF everything was done properly on the show’s end.

Also, it wasn’t a Lincoln Center archive recording - wasn’t it several camera angles, etc?

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

^ it wasn’t done properly on the show’s end. Whenever filming occurs at a show, its purpose must be declared (press/b-roll, archival only, commercial release) and the recordings may only be used for that purpose. When b-roll is shot, there’s typically several hours of set-ups in an empty theater to get some great looking shots, and then a multi-cam capture of a performance with an audience.
Recordings for the Lincoln Center archives are also done with several cameras (three to five is typical), by their in-house crew.
B-roll may not be used for the Lincoln Center archives, and vice versa.
The Bandstand Fathom event was their b-roll - a recording that is not allowed to be released commercially.

Meh. I have BroadwayHD now - got it to watch the Berkeley Rep’s production of School Girls. But things come and go quickly. I was pleased to see Sweeney Todd a few days ago, but I guess that was a limited release (probably connected to Stephen Sondheim’s birthday). Oh, well.

Actually, Sweeney was on there for quite some time. I guess their 12 month agreement passed

Damn, Corey Cott posted on his Instagram Live some exciting Bandstand news coming this week. Was hoping for a broadcast.

^ it’s possible, if the unions (particularly AEA) recently granted a concession.

Does anyone know why it's been delayed just hours from when it was supposed to be released?:

Fair enough, just bummed to miss it. I have a BroadwayHD free trial with a couple of filmed local plays so I don’t know when things come and go. I just want to make sure I catch the worthwhile stuff while I have the chance.

They didn't cancel it. They just delayed it. At least according to the official statement.

Can we all agree to not make up stuff out of our ass now?

Sure. Who made anything up? You can reference above where I stipulated that it could be done if the unions granted a concession - which obviously has happened.

I thought we had agreed to stop making stuff up? Where did you see anything about special concessions? Anytime someone makes a special concession for you, it's customary to thank them or acknowledge the concession (entertainment industry wide - from "x appears courtesy of y" in movie credits), which didn't happen.

You're gonna claim everything that happens with this recording is a special concession instead of simply admitting they had every right to release this after they got the rights to do the Fathom Events thing and just chose not to?

That’s not at all true. I’ve been involved with dozens of Broadway union concessions, and not a single one of them was ever publicly recognized.
