NYTW Usual Suspect and Tony Award winner Sam Gold (Othello) revisits Chekhov following his acclaimed 2012 production of Uncle Vanya that was heralded as “luminous” and "the most intimate and engaging exploration of Chekhov's bleak comedy.”

This production of Three Sisters reunites Gold with two previous collaborators: The Village Bike’s Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird, Frances Ha) and Hamlet’s Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Inside Llewyn Davis).
Love Great- and Isaac- would love to see this one- but it will be a very tough ticket.

This was announced about 6 months ago.

I made a post about it here:

(though nobody responded to it, haha)

Ha! I was just coming here to write the same thing. I’ve had my eye on this for about six months now, awaiting the day tickets go on sale.

I consider Sam Gold's Hamlet with Oscar Isaac to be one of the most thrilling interpretations of a classical work I've ever seen. I was hanging on every word of every actor. After never really seeing a production of Hamlet I've liked (and I've seen many), it really struck me and I felt like I finally -got- it.

I've never actually seen a production of The Three Sisters, and I'm  so excited for this one.

Sorry- I did not see any recent posts- I have been a fan of Greta's for a long time- seen most of her movies- and of course, now that she is directing her star has really risen- but I particularly her wacky movie persona- I find her funny and endearing. If this was a repeat from 6 months ago- I think it is okay for a more current post to make its way- because tickets will be going on soon, I would guess.

After LADY BIRD and LITTLE WOMEN I would follow Gerwig into fire.

Anyone know whose translation it is? Did Sam Gold write the adaptation?

I don't see why it wouldn't be. It's been on NYTW's season since last summer. They never release the dates of their shows until a month or two before, when tickets go on sale, so we probably won't solidly know the dates for at least a month, if not more.

Gold's Hamlet and Othello were remarkably strong, but then there are his King Lear and The Glass Menagerie, which, in my view, failed artistically.  So, while I'm interested in seeing how Gold handles this material, I can't say I'm all that excited about it.

I feel as if this will sell out in minutes when it does go on sale!
