Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows when the Allegiance DVD box set is going to be released? I signed up for the email when it becomes available, but I haven't heard anything and I'm getting kind of nervous. I hope it's released so people can buy it and get it before Christmas... :)
EDIT: I emailed and asked when it will be released, and they said they "hit several design and manufacturing delays". They are trying to make it so people can pre-order in January.
The website also has a phone number and email address people can use to contact them, so... if you really wanted to know, that would seem the easiest option.
Their answer is "coming soon". They're trying to milk this thing in movie theaters every couple of months, which i'm sure delays the release of home distribution. Honestly, I think they lost all momentum by now, another bad decision by this producing group.
I hope they'll at least release their 'Bandstand' in time.

I don't think there is any overlap between Allegiance and Bandstand on the creative side?

Same producers for the two films I believe. "Sing out, Louise!" Productions

Hmm, I never saw Sing Out Louise attached to Bandstand in any way? I don't think they were involved in the stage version, though."
"In honor of Veterans Day, Fathom Events and Sing Out, Louise! Productions will present encore screenings of Broadway’s Bandstand in movie theatres nationwide November 15 and 19."
I'm disappointed that this hasn't been released yet. I didn't love the show on Broadway, but I'd have no problem spending the money to own it on DVD/Blu-ray.
"Unfortunately, we are encountering delays due to the manufacturer. At this point we know we are very close (all the designs and content is finished) but it really depends on them. We have waited taking anyone’s money and pre-orders for exactly this reason, but we will update everyone as soon as possible. Rest assured that it will be available before we even consider bringing the film back to theaters as it’s currently our highest priority."

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
Does anyone know why this is still being held up for so long from a DVD/Blu-ray/Digital release of some kind?
Seems like the people behind it always emphasize the educational aspects of it, but what good is it if people are kept from seeing it for so long?
I understand that Bandstand is probably being held up because of the ongoing tour, but what's the reason for this one being kept from release? Seems a bit ridiculous at this point.
GiantsInTheSky2 said: "Recent fun fact: George Takei did an interview with The Guardian in which he said his most expensive purchase was what he put into Allegiance."
And he could likely make some of that money back with a streaming deal with BroadwayHD and a DVD/Blu-Ray release. What’s taking so long?
The Allegiance producers forgot all about this when they started working on their new major project, Hadestown. I can understand them not wanting to waste time producing a DVD, but why not just release this on BroadwayHD etc?

I'm starting to think it might be some kind of a legal issue, or one of the rights holders not agreeing to a release, or something.
What other reason could there be for the delay? I'm sure BroadwayHD has tried to acquire it, as they are very hungry for new content.
Did anyone just try asking George on social media lately if he knows the reason for the holdup? Seems like he'd be one of the people who wants it to spread as wide as possible, since he has so much invested in it, financially, and personally.
Since they cited a manufacturing issue, I have to imagine the delay is caused by something taking longer than expected for the box set. There could be issues with the replica props. There could be issues with a unique/uncommon design element in the coffee table book. It could even be unit cartons or packing material. I doubt they would specify delays due to a manufacturer over licensing/rights issues.
$169.99 ($299.99 if you want the hardcover book autographed by Takei). Ships worldwide on April 1st. Portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation Memory and Justice Endowment Fund.
I would love to know who they think their buyers will be. While I might buy a regular priced DVD of the show, I would never spend $170 on a 2 disc with book set. I didn't find the show special enough to warrant that kind of money.
