Glad you enjoyed it after all this time you had to “Wait For It.” Sorry, sorry, I couldn’t resist. Lol

Anyone have insight into how the box seats are at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square? I convinced by friend to see it while it’s there. She was excited. She said she paid $150 for front mezzanine seat. I assured her that was a great seat and a reasonable price for that seat. She was rethinking her decision after one of her friends commented on her excited Facebook post about how she had just won a lottery ticket and another friend who won lottery ticket for front orchestra. Not sure why they did that since all it did was make her question her decision. Anyway, when I look at the seat map she sent me I’m almost 100% sure she bought a box seat. I asked her if she had and she doesn’t think she did. I don’t want to do anything to discourage her but I just want to be prepared if she comes back and says she had a horrible view.

Keeping in mind that “Hamilton” is playing at the State Theater and not Connor Palace, make sure you’re looking at the correct floor plan.

Here’s a picture I took from my seat H610 in the front mezzanine, fourth row, center. The Loge occupies Rows A-C, there is no Row D, and Row E is the first row of the Mezzanine. You can see the box seats on the side of the image...

Oh my. She is definitely sitting in the first box closest to the stage - house right. She sent me a seat map with it circled and arrow pointing to it. She thinks she is sitting in the front row of the mezzanine (loge). I asked if it was a box seat and she said didn’t think so. She’s way smarter than I am, but she is not an experienced theater patron. It’s pretty clear she’ll miss anything that happens extreme stage left. Luckily, all the major stuff happens center stage. Hopefully, she won’t miss anything towards back of center stage. I’m the one who encouraged her to see this and she was second guessing herself after her Facebook friend was bragging about how easy it is to win lottery tix. I already mentioned the possibility that these might be box seats, but she doesn’t think they are. I think it’s best I zip my lip unless she asks. She’ll just make herself miserable worrying if I say more. The reality is there are perks to box seats: great leg room and she’ll have greater appreciation of the set design (center stage anyway) than her lottery-winning front Orchestra friend perhaps. Plus her seat was $75 cheaper or more I think than front mezzanine would have been. The first time I saw Hamilton I paid way more than she paid for nosebleed seats that were literally in the last row of rear mezzanine. They were originally $60 tickets that my friend and I paid $375 each for through a hotel concierge. Of course, this was November 2015 and even though my bad knees were in such pain I was on verge of tears and we were so far away, it was worth it to see the OBC (with Andrew Rannells subbing for Jonathan Groff).

I’m not sure how many lottery tickets are awarded for the Cleveland run per show, but I’ve entered every day since I returned and still haven’t won. I know it’s greedy to want to see it again, but damn I had a great time!

I would be doing the same thing if I lived near Cleveland.

My main concern is I don’t want my friend to be disappointed since I’m the one who has been urging her to see it and it is my favorite show.

I came up with five scenes where the upper walkway on the extreme stage left was used:

1 - In the title song “Alexander Hamilton” when the three sisters say “We, I loved him”.

2 - Introduction to Lafayette by Aaron Burr in “Guns and Ships”.

3 - When Hamilton asks Washington if he’s to run the Treasury or State in “Non-Stop”.

4 - The beginning of the song when Philip Schuyler loses his senate seat in “Schuyler Defeated”.

5 - The theater box scene with George Eacker in “Blow Us All Away”.

Like you said most ALL all of the action takes place center stage and stage right, with some of it stage left but towards the very front.

I hope she doesn’t miss 1 & 2. I know there’s no way she’ll see 5.

I would also like her to see 3. She probably won’t even realize all she misses because so much is happening. And what she’ll see will be amazing!

Not a box seat, but in Chicago I sat extreme house left in the 8th row. And while I missed some of the action, being so close to the stage MORE than made up for it. I paid $165 for row T in Cleveland (for the second to last performance), and when they released the box seats for $150 last week I was actually bummed because I probably would have preferred them! I think your friend will have a great time even if she misses a few things.

Also, this pic seems to be from a box seat in Cleveland: https://www.instagram.com/p/BloeRNiAa6K/?taken-at=216205610

Well, she should be super close. Lol. I saw Hamilton for the second time, this time in Chicago, last November. My seat was far House right Orchestra Row D. It was thrilling to be close even if I missed a couple things. From seeing it before, I knew what was happening even if I couldn’t see it. In fact I sat Row G house right slightly closer to Center this month in Chicago and loved it. I was able to see more of the action on the far stage left in upper level this time though.

That Instagram picture is pretty telling. Wow. I’m not sure I’d want that seat.

It’ll be interesting to hear how she likes the show from there. At least she won’t need binoculars!

Just heard back from the person who has that Instagram page. She said she couldn’t see the side or back of stage. I feel like I need to let my friend know. Would you agree? Maybe she could exchange her seat?

When I saw Hamilton again in Chicago, I accidentally bought my ticket initially for a week before I was going to be there. Ticketmaster initially told me that the venue didn’t allow for any exchanges. But I reached out specifically to BroadwayinChicago.com and they were able to make it happen.

I think she would be better off in rear mezzanine if that’s all she can afford to exchange for if she had a better vantage point.

Just looked. I know she doesn’t want to spend more than she did. Looks like her ticket is the cheapest of what’s available. There are some far left Balcony tickets, but even they are $20 more than her box seat.

The box seats are labeled partial view when you buy them. So as far as telling her, well, technically she should already know, although I know you mentioned she thought she bought mezz seats.

A weird quirk of the Playhouse website that I did not appreciate at ALL when I first bought tickets, is if you forego using the map and let the venue pick your seat, if there are no seats available in your requested section if automatically puts different seats in your cart. So, for example, I was searching for $165 dress circle seats, and if they weren't available, instead of saying so, it put $400+ seats in my cart. I wonder if a similar thing happened to your friend?

The venue is mostly sold out for the run with the exception of the box seats, some premium seats, and a few "cheaper" $225 seats sprinkled throughout. I personally would rather pay $150, see the actors up close, and see the emotions on their faces during numbers like "It's Quiet Uptown" and "Burn", then pay $225 and sit at the back of the theatre and see tiny ants on a stage. If you go on their website and look at their seat views (go in as if you were buying tix, they offer a LOT of vantage point photos), rear mezz and even rear orchestra are just SO far away. I mean, yeah, you "see" all the action, but you don't really SEE it, you know?

Yeah, I suppose I should just keep my trap shut. I know she doesn’t want to pay more. And for $20 more she’d be much further away.

For what it's worth, this person gave the partial view 5 stars (no comment on it, though): https://aviewfrommyseat.com/photo/90052/KeyBank+State+Theatre/section-Level+Box/row-1/seat-1/

Thanks. That view (although from house left) looks much better. I actually wouldn’t mind that seat. I think it will somewhat depend on which seat she has in the box. From what she has explained, it appears she has the front row. Hopefully, she is in a seat a bit further from the stage as that may give her a better vantage point.

Just heard again from the woman with Instagram photo from the house right box seat. I had asked if she regretted her seat. She said, ”nah! It was still amazing!”

The day before I went up to Cleveland to see the show a front row Loge seat opened up for $30 more than what I had paid for my fourth row mezzanine. I called to see if they’d allow an exchange and they refused. Pretty hard-lined. She can call and ask, but I doubt very seriously they’ll let her.

As for the option to use the map or let them choose, I’ll always use the former when it’s available. But when “Hamilton” sales opened up on Day 1 in Cleveland, I went from the virtual waiting room to next in line to buy now in less than eight minutes. I grabbed the best seat I could at the time letting them choose. I had been waiting on the phone, and the map option at that time never became available.

Unfortunately - and I risked the chance of seats not being available at all for my birthday on a Friday evening the first week of its run - a better seat opened up 24 hours before showtime. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

My husband and I both entered the lottery EVERY DAY for the entire five months that the Angelica tour was in San Francisco last year and we won exactly zero tickets. We do know other people who ended up winning tickets through the lottery, but it just never happened for us (thankfully we had already bought tickets when they initially went on sale, but still). Some of the lottery seats that people won in SF were obstructed view or not great seats (and if you entered the lottery for two tickets, the official rules warned that your two tickets might not be next to each other), so I was kind of laughing that your friend thinks it's so easy to win lottery tickets in the front of the orchestra!

In this interview with Savannah Guthrie, Lin confirmed that after the initial three week run in Puerto Rico, the Peggy company will come to the United States. Based on the tour dates/locations already scheduled for the Angelica and Philip tours, it looks pretty certain that the Peggy tour will be the SF cast (the show opens there in late February). He starts discussing the casting around the 9:00 minute mark and he mentions that it will be another tour cast around the 9:30 mark.
