There was quite a lot of people, I would say around 100.

I'm excited to see this during my upcoming trip in April. I have not seen the movie, however. To those of you who have seen both: does it enhance the experience to have seen the movie beforehand or should I go in cold?

Just managed to get one ticket for this through Audience Rewards for the evening show on Saturday, July 7th.  Best I was able to get is Orchestra R2, which is on the right side, but an aisle seat.  It's about 13 rows back from the stage, but I guess I should be lucky I got in, given the sales for the show.  Really looking forward to this.

Now to decide on my last ticket for the trip.  Originally, Carousel was going to be a lock, but now not so sure.  Still tempted to see it, as I have never seen it performed live before.  Also possibly considering Straight White Men.

So far, my summer weekend trip is as follows...

Friday, July 6 - My Fair lady

Saturday July 7 (afternoon) - The Boys in the Band

Saturday July 7 (evening) - Mean Girls

So, just have Thursday night open, and debating between Carousel and Straight White Men.

Also going back in December for a longer trip, and already have tickets for Frozen and Harry Potter.

I hadn't seen the movie in several years and even then it wasn't the whole way through — I didn't have trouble with it, considering how many of the quotes have made it into general pop culture. I went with a friend who'd never seen the movie, and what she had been confused about seemed to be because of a few tech goofs (we were at the invited dress).

Have they released any clips of any of the songs yet?

Is Barrett Weed in the show anymore? Somebody posted in another thread that she got egged at the stage door last night. On Twitter, somebody posted a picture of the cast board, and her name is not on it.

"From what i have heard, (my friend went), people were extremely rude, and someone threw an egg at Barrett, plus, it was raining so everyones playbills got ruined. People are horrible to Barrett for no reason, ever since Heathers. People in DC followed her to restaurants and to her apartment, causing her to stop stagedooring for the rest of the DC run. People do not know etiquette!"

I remember seeing her Instagram story re: stagedooring in DC.

I am appalled. I truly hope that this is fabricated. On that note, why? Was it some massive HEATHERS fandom person who was obsessed with the show and had animosity to Barrett for leaving the show, so much so that they threw an EGG AT HER??? REALLY???? It is just skits, y'all. I get liking a show. Egging someone because you THINK they "caused drama" at your favorite one, I don't get. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that this didn't happen.

And for Broadway fans... stay out of the business of Broadway. Not your place. She left HEATHERS years ago. Seriously. So immature.

I knew people followed her, but I thought it was because they were superfans and wanted to meet her. I've never heard of anyone doing something like this towards her. I certainly hope it's fake as well. As for the board, that could easily be an innocent mistake. I think she would just stop stage-dooring if the egging happened, not fully leave a principal role on Broadway.

Here's the cast board tweet in question.

Pretty clear that somebody Photoshopped over her name to create a little social media drama. Dumb.

Definitely Photoshopped. They are clearly making a joke about how quickly she left Heathers.

Ok good to know that the picture is photoshopped, but the stage door incident is really disturbing and bullying behavior.

If that egg incident is true, I hope the production team urges the ENTIRE cast not to stage door.

What is it about Heathers that spawned this diabolical teenage fanbase that "stans" all the "fandoms" or whatever enough to egg somebody at the stage door? I mean, really.

It is strange how big that musical has gotten and how rabid the fans are. Don't really know why someone would egg her; as far as I can tell, they're all in love with her.

That's what happens when you create a musical that glorifies teen violence and hate. I'm absolutely appalled that Heathers is considered anything less than disgusting in this day and age.

I was at the second preview this evening and have some pretty mixed thoughts about the show. Mean Girls is generally pleasant to sit through; it rarely hits cringeworthy or boring territory, but I also don’t know if I actually laughed out loud once the whole night. Everything is bubbly and upbeat, but it doesn’t really soar. (My favorite song was Gretchen’s more introspective character number What’s Wrong With Me; the group numbers at the school become repetitive and feel generic- completely interchangeable with Louderman’s other teen show, Bring It On, and that’s not a compliment. There even was a dancing lion mascot that reminded me of that awful dancing leprechaun in Bring It On.)

Structurally, the show has the same problem the movie has, which is the plot comes apart in the second half. The plastics and all the fun we have with them are pushed aside for ballads about stars, school assemblies about bullying and a mathletes competition. Gretchen and Karen essentially disappear and Regina, despite being given the tenth belting-as-high-as-she-can beltorama beltfest in a row, doesn’t make much of an impression in act two either.

Janis and Damian, who really feel like minor characters in the film, as often put center stage. Damian gets two big production numbers near the top of each act and Janis gets an 11 o’clock belterpiece inbetween Regina’s aforementioned belter and Cady’s final song about stars (again).

The actors are all likable and pass the belt as high as they can test. There can be daily shuffles with Regina, Elphaba and Elsa if any of actors feel like they need a break from their current roles.

So much of dialogue is lifted right from the film and delivered in the exact same way as the film actors delivered it. It’s hard to laugh at the fetch lines when we’ve not only heard the joke so many times over the years, but we’ve also seen it parodied on SNL and other teen comedies. It’s a testament to the original screenplay that so much of it has entered the pop culture lexicon, but that makes Mean Girls the musical feel like a nostalgia trip rather than something fresh and exciting.

A word about Kerry Butler- I knew she was playing Tina Fey’s role in the film (among others), but I didn’t realize she would actually be asked to play Tina Fey. She does a pretty damn good impersonation of Fey and there’s certainly a meta quality watching an actress impersonate Fey after we’ve watched her impersonate so many famous people on SNL, but it’s weird that they didn’t let Butler just create the role of teacher.

I normally am not a fan of projections, but they mostly worked for me here. There is very little physical set though and this can leave the stage looking barren at times.

I think Mean Girls will have a Legally Blonde-esque trajectory and eventually become a popular choice to put on in high schools.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

But as long as Barrett was performing, it was probably just a simple mistake or they need to adjust something. Thanks for telling us though!
