What do you think will be nominated for Best Musical Theatre Album?  The nominees will be announced this Tuesday.  Here are a few of the albums that were released since October 1. I'm not going to be able to name them all, especially because there were so many and I don't know how many or which ones are actually on the ballot... or if any of these were outside the eligibility period, especially with some early digital releases... for example, the upcoming Sunday/Park album was digitally released in September within the period, but the CD will be released next month. Feel free to add any I unintentionally forgot! :)

I think Sunday, Natasha, and Dear Evan Hansen are locks.

I guess it's probably Dear Evan Hansen or Come From Away's to lose, but I'd like to see something like Spamilton at least get a nom.

It's normally 5 nominees.

I'd say 4 of those are almost definitely going to be CFADEH, Great Comet, and SIPTWG. Fifth slot is up for grabs, most probably going to Dolly!.

If this were a conversation within the musical theatre world, I'd give it to SIPTWG hands-down. I feel like I was one of many to be totally blown away by that cast recording.

Anyone think specific names attached to albums will help those albums score a nomination?

Bette Midler/Hello, Dolly

Jake Gyllenhaal/Sunday

David Bowie/Lazarus

Alan Menken/A Bronx Tale

Etc....?

"Jake Gyllenhaal/Sunday"

I think another specific name attached to the show will assure it a nomination --- and who knows, maybe even a win.

The Grammys do love Sondheim, which gives Sunday a bit of an edge. I think Dear Evan Hansen has a particularly strong chance considering how popular the show is and how popular Platt's performance is. I think they're probably the clear frontrunner. Comet has a great album and Groban's attached and Dolly has Midler, even if the album itself isn't all that popular. I think Lazarus might slip in there due to Bowie and I would be thrilled to see Falsettos get recognized, but I doubt that will happen, unfortunately.

If Dolly gets a nomination, that would be a crime. It is a horribly recorded album, with absolutely no energy. I think it's going to come down to Dear Evan Hansen and Sunday and hopefully Sunday wins.

Sunday blows the others out of the water; it should win, and deservedly so.

Although deep down in my heart I hope Comet wins, or a nomination at least, so they can all get, especially Dave Malloy, something after they've been ****ed so hard at the Tonys (and everything that happened afterwards).

The show is stuck in the mud, so there's no water to blow anything else out of.

But if Grammy voters are sticks-in-the-mud themselves, or merely awed and/or intimidated by the great one's name, the tuneless bore of a score will win ---- again!

Personally, I would love to see Hello, Dolly! win (ain't gonna happen), or failing that, Anastasia or SpongeBob SquarePants.

I think the nominees will be...

Dear Evan Hansen-Pasek & Paul may end up with multiple Grammy nominations this year given that the soundtrack for La La Land was released during this year's eligibility period.
Dreamgirls-The original Broadway cast recording won this award in 1983. The soundtrack for the film version was nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media in 2008, while one of the new songs, ‘Love You I Do', won Best Song Written for Visual Media. Not to mention that Amber Riley is on the new cast recording, and she’s been nominated three times before for Glee.
Hello, Dolly!-It of course features Bette Midler, a three-time Grammy winner. Not to mention that the original cast recording with Carol Channing was nominated back in 1965, but lost to Funny Girl.
Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812-It of course features Josh Groban, a two-time Grammy nominee.
Sunday in the Park with George-The original cast recording with Mandy Patinkin & Bernadette Peters has previously won this award in 1985.

I would love to see:

-- Dear Evan Hansen

-- The Great Comet (interestingly, I have eliminated a decent number of tracks to increase my listening pleasure, but I still think this is an amazing recording

-- SITPWG (I think Gyllenhaal comes across better than Patinkin, but Peters will never be surpassed as Dot

-- Come From Away

-- Bandstand (I know it is not gonna happen, but I think it is a great recording, and Cott and Osnes are incredible.

After Eight, I have to disagree with you...I think Hello Dolly is a totally mediocre recording.  IMO it would be a damn shame if it is nominated...but it probably will be.

There will only be three slots this year, I hear.

Isn't it strange that the best production of the whole season ended up with the worst cast album? I think about my time seeing Dolly! at the Shubert very often, but can't bring myself to listen to that stale recording.

I think it may mirror the Tonys for best score?

CFA
DEH
GC
(If there are only 3)

SITPWG
Hello Dolly

(If there are more slots)

No matter what new soundtracks or anything else, some voters may just go with what happened at the tonys for best score, because it's safe, especially if they don't know musical theater that well, so I think there is a good chance it will go to DEH

Haha, my bad, I just got SO excited when I saw it!! :) I love Annaleigh, and LOVED this production. And, of course, who doesn't love Jake? I love that shot of them on the FYC poster. I wish there was an HQ shot of that picture, or a clearer version or something. They are such magical actors, and I genuinely believe this album was the best MT album of the year. If it doesn't get at LEAST a nod, I will be forever disappointed.

If Great Comet is nominated, I hope Josh campaign HARD for it. He’s never won a Grammy and I’d just love to see that show get awarded posthumously. I think it’s also a rock solid album. It sounds amazing. Both Dolly and DEH are incomplete while Comet is just fuller.

I'll be honest, I'm still not over them nominating Kinky Boots again after it winning 3 years earlier. But in any case, I believe in the last 20 years, it's gone to whoever won Best Musical. or Best Revival, about 80% of the time. So it's doing to go to DEH in any case. But for other nominations, I bet it'll be Dolly (for Bette) and Great Comet (for Josh Groban and the eclectic score).

It was nominated (and won) in 2014 for its Original Broadway Cast Recording. The show, but not the same production, was nominated again last year for its West End Cast Recording. Two different albums!

"

Well yes, but was there really anything that substantially different in the producing of it, except that it was recorded live?
