Previews for the first Broadway revival of Ahrens and Flaherty's Once on This Island begin in just a few days (Thursday, November 9, 2017) at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Featuring the Broadway debut of Hailey Kilgore as Ti Moune and with Michael Arden at the helm, Once on This Island is set to open officially on December 3 for an open run.

Who's going?!

It doesn't help that the lowest ticket price is like $80.

They are going to be doing a performance on one of the Thanksgiving Day parade telecasts, so that should raise awareness.

It seems that they won't have a rush, but rather an in person lottery, which kind of sucks.

^^ I'm actually pretty happy about this. As a New Yorker, this increases my chances of winning immensely.

I agree with you. I'm a new yorker too and love in-person lotteries! My only issue is people may get confused as to when the lottery occurs.

"The Pre-Show Lottery will open 2 hours before weekday performances and evening weekend performances and take place 90 minutes before those performances. For Saturday matinee performance, the lottery will open 2 and a half hours prior to curtain and take place 2 hours prior to curtain. For Sunday matinee performances, the lottery will open 90 minutes prior to curtain and take place 60 minutes prior to curtain."

Spring Awakening revival awarded a fairly large number of lottery tickets. All lottery losers were then given 30-50% off on tickets which was a pretty sweet deal. There's a chance this will be similar since Davenport's involved. Only thing is, I worry about in person lottery's sustainability during the winter. Would they have a tent like setup outside the theater to protect the likely audience from weather?

I’ll be there. Has anything been reported about the size of the band for this production? Hoping they’ve added back in “Come Down From The Tree” —maybe as a solo for Lea Salonga?

Isn't Circle in the Square theater right next to the Gershwin (where Wicked is playing) in the same buliding? There is an area in front of both theaters that has a roof that can easily hold more than 100 people. That's actually where the Wicked in-person lottery is .... so now I wonder if there will be confusion between the Wicked in-person lottery and the OOTI in-person lottery. For those who go later tonight, please let us know!

Valentina3 - Broadway was doing in-person lotteries long before the online lottery trend started a couple of years ago. People just waited in the cold or the rain. Going to the lottery on a rainy/snowy day usually meant a guaranteed cheap ticket.

Also, Circle in the Square is right next to Wicked, so there's a roof over everyone's head there anyway. No tent necessary.

That makes sense, raddersons and Wick3. I totally forgot this was playing at Circle, my bad. The concern came mostly from a selfish point of view because I remember standing outside Brooks Atkinson the week in late Nov 2015, just freezing my tiny gay body off, reading about Jeb Bush's chances of winning the RNC primary (lol).

As the first preview is more or less over at this point, I thought I'd give this thread a bump in anticipation to some reports.

Loved it. Standouts for me were Hailey Kilgore, Alex Newell, and Merle Dandridge. Worked well in theater in the round format. Strong ensemble. Great choreography. Set and costumes were different from any I’ve ever seen— Alex Newell in an Atlanta Falcons Jersey! Stage is filled with a sand “beach” with water on one end. If you’re in the first row, your feet are in the sand.
