Best Actress in a Musical: Katrina Lenk  (nominees would be Katrina, Hailey Kilgore, Patti Murin/Caissie Levy and Lauren Ambrose. I could also see the girl who plays Cady in MG sneak in possibly if the frozen girls cancel each other out)

Best Score: most likely Band's Visit (nominees would be Mean Girls, Frozen and Band's Visit)

I didn't like any of the songs from Mean Girls when listening to audios, but when I saw the show live I really enjoyed them

Best Actor: Probably Ethan Slater or Tony Shalhoub (When I saw Band's Visit last weekend I didn't see Tony, but his replacement was wonderful)

Best Featured Actress: Kenita Miller, Lea Salonga, Barrett Wilbur Reed, Taylor Louderman (I have no clue who could win. They are all wonderful in different shows)

Best Featured Actor: Philip Boykin, Grey Henson, Sqiudward LOL, Alex Newell

Best Musical: Band's Visit (nominee's would be Band's Visit, Mean Girls and Spongebob)

I'm hoping BV pulls the win but I could see Mean Girls or Spongebob take it if the voters preferred something more lively.

Best Revival: OOTI or MFL (I only got to see OOTI on my trip so I'm just going with all the praise for MFL and listing it)

I was going to make a forum of this. Has anyone  have any ideas who will Featured Actor/Actress this year? It's so damn competitive this year! For Actor, I think Alex Newell vs. Darian Gray with Gavin Lee as the black horse. Actress, I have no clue! Rockwell/Weed vs. Mendez????

If Louderman is featured, shes winning, imo. If not, It Will likely be Mendez.

Featured is a toss up to me, I was certain of Butz Power, but I believe maybe Newell can as a "consolation Prize" for OOTI? He surely has a momentum to guarantee that.

Who the heck is Darian Gray? And I believe Norbert is the front runner for featured actor.

I'm assuming she means Grey Henson, who plays Damian in MEAN GIRLS.

After seeing Mean Girls, it's clear to me that Kate Rockwell is the most deserving of a performance nomination. Easily stole the show away from everybody else. Like, belly laughter funny.

Taylor Louderman gave the next-best performance, and I could see her taking the fifth slot of whichever category she gets placed in.

Those two, along with Grey Henson in Featured Actor, are the only three performances I could see Mean Girls getting performance noms.

MadsonMelo, I’m trying to understand what your reference to consolation prize is; can you explain more what you mean?

I don't know if this sounds rude to the production or the actor, but as everybody votes for everything there's a chance that they feel, like, that Newell is the best place to reward a beloved and (likely) very well nominated show.

OOIT can receive 7-8 nominations, maybe 9 and, let's be real, their only shots are Revival and Featured Actor. They are not winning Director nor the other categories.

So, if they go with MFL with Revival, why not choose Newell, a well received performance with a showstopper number, as the way to reward the show? I think it's plausible.

That way of thinking could also help Mean Gilrs in Featured Actress category. Especially if Louderman goes featured.

But, even with Rockwell and Weed, this is still likely. If only one of the two gets in, I'm betting on whoever gets in.

I could say the same about Henson, but it would be strange if the only win of Mean GIRLS was, you know... a guy.

The Tonys aren’t Little League Baseball. There are no “consolation prizes” or “participation trophies”. With that being said, considering what we saw last year in the direction categories from the voters, what exactly makes you think Arden won’t win? Based on last season, we have every reason to believe Cromer WON’T win, and I really don’t think there’s a better case for anyone but Arden.

And also, after the reviews for MFL, is Butz really still the front runner? As time goes on, I’m beginning to think more and more that the 3rd Tony for Butz has sailed. While I won’t be stunned by a Butz win, anyone other than him, Newell, or Lee taking it will shock me.

It's kind of upsetting that the Mean Girls score will get nominated (and people think it could win????) just because of numbers this season. It is NOT a score deserving of a Tony nomination but it will get one! Sucks.

This happens at all awards around the world. CFA's Tony for Directing is a prime example of this.

Everybody should be worth and people love to spread the wealth among the most loved productions.

"Consolation prizes" are common at the Tonys. I think Alex Newell very well might win. That being said, I think OOTI could and should win for revival, which in that case, I could see them giving the award to Butz. Newell gave the better performance in my opinion, but the Tonys and Oscars rarely award the "best" performance. There's usually a ton of politics involved.

funhamilton_rent said: "Might just be me, but I don't see The Band's Visit getting a ton of Tony love. I saw it and just didn't get it. Katrina and Tony were good at best, and the music and book were both awful. No memorable songs at all, everything felt so boring. I went back and listened to the whole cast recording and the only songs tolerable were Omar Sharif and Welcome to Nowhere. Could someone explain to me what is so revolutionary and great about it?”

LesWickedly said: "funhamilton_rent, it’s a bit ignorant to think just because you didn’t like something, it’s not going to get Tony Awards. The Band’s Visit is a beautiful and subtle musical that isn’t for everyone. In a recent interview on Theater People, the actors talked about how the book writer didn’t want the show to feel important (as that term is used for shows trying to make an impact or change the scope). There’s no overall message in my opinion, it’s just a beautiful story told wonderfully through its book, score and performances. The show is one of the best reviewed of the decade, it has no competition, it will be winning Best Musical and Best Score, along with some other awards I’m sure. Just remember, a show doesn’t have to be “important” or “revolutionary” to be good."

Wanted to carry this over from the other thread since we’re trying to get away from duplicate threads. I’ve been listening to the OBCR of ”The Band’s Visit” and have fell in love with it, even without seeing the show. My favorites are of course “Omar Sharif” and “Welcome to Nowhere” but several of the other pieces are quite well done as well: “Here I Am” is gorgeous and haunting; “Papi Hears the Ocean” is funny, followed by “Haled’s Song About Love” harkens back to the era of his music hero Chet Baker, and the song sounds amazing; and the instrumentation used in the other pieces, as in Haj-Butrus and Soraya, is exotic and sounds incredible. There isn’t a bad track in the entire album as far as I’m concerned.

I have to think it'll take set design. And has a healthy shot at sound design/lighting as well. (Also, I'm sure that Jamshied Sharifi will win Orchestrations for The Band's Visit, which it would deserve because the orchestrations are fantastic, but I'm secretly rooting for OOTI here too. Such smart decisions with the way they incorporated found objects as instruments, and I LOVE that the vocal arrangements are co-nominated!)

I'm not sure what you're suggesting, but this stuff about Tony voters giving consolation prizes is silly and belittles the most significant theatrical award in the world.  Kristin earned a win in 2015 as did King and I.  The races this year are tight in some categories.  No one is going to vote in a tight race and assume that their vote will be the winner, and therefore will vote for an actor in a different category that is less deserving.

And by the way, no one gave out consolation prizes the year that the Producer's took home practically every Tony in every category.  A lot of shows would have loved a consolation prize but were left without an award!

My vote is for vice versa.  Give Alex Newell the award for Best Revival and My Fair Lady the award for Best Featured Actor.  Way too early 2018 Tony Predictions Thread

But seriously.  No one is going to be voting that way.  None of these races are a slam dunk.  I'd love to see Alex win and Once on this Island win.  But this aint the peoples' choice awards.  So we'll see how the Tony voters think.  You can't have two shows more different going head to head for Best Revival:  old school early front runner proscenium classic that is on its fifth or sixth revival vs fresh first time dark horse revival set in the round.
