I dont know if this has been announced, but Spring Awakening is defiantly performing at the Tony's! My friend was part of the costume crew when the show was still on Broadway and today he posted a pic on facebook at the Tony rehearsal for Spring Awakening.

They shouldn't have to be defiant about it. They were invited to do so.

I was hoping they would just spread the love. These kids are so agressive! Defy this SA!

Is there a reason they weren't invited to perform to begin with? Is it because it's a revival?

I have no doubt that Elphaba's defying gravity paved the way for this. Keep fighting the good fight, kids.

They were always invited, it was just a question of whether they wanted to put up the money to perform. (The Kickstarter saga is a whole different conversation.)

I'm pretty sure OP meant "definitely," not "defiantly." I was confused for a minute too.

Every nominated show is invited to perform.

Are they allowing non-nominated shows to perform this year? As in years past?

Usually the nominees for Best Musical and Best Revival are the ones expected to perform with others sometimes being able to perform in order to sell their show (If/Then for example).
