Thanksgiving Parade 2015

does anybody have any inkling or any insider information about what shows may be doing the parade this year on 34th Street on Thanksgiving?   I've always wanted to go down and be in the vicinity, though obviously the viewer seats are only for VIPs and the wealthy.

I figure School of Rock and On Your Feet will get an invitation for sure.  I think American in Paris maybe has been out too long and their ensemble may be too big to fit the parade's purposes.  Their cast already puts in so many hours and R. Fairchild and L. Cope obviously now have alternates, so their producers may not even be interested in an invitation.

Dames at Sea has been out for a while now and is doing poorly at the box office, so I figure they may not get an invite.

I'd guess Hamilton & On Your Feet for sure... and maybe Something Rotten, Fiddler & School of Rock.

I would be very surprised if Finding Neverland did not get a spot.

I forgot all about Hamilton.   And  finding neverland.

I'm not really sure if Hamilton is the type of show that would want to be in the parade.   the parade isn't really a forum where they can showcase the true nature of the show, there's also obviously no revolving table they can stand on on 34th St, and the hip hop nature of the lyrics isn't really something that coalesces with the rest of the parade and its participants.  I assume they selected the Richard Rodgers theatre ( a midsized theatre) because they wanted to preserve the integrity of their show and its contents.   But I guess you can't really turn down a macy's thanksgiving parade invitation, A. Hamilton surely wouldn't have, though surely Jefferson would've been turned off by the grandiosity and pomp and influence of the influential masses.   I do wish Ben Franklin and John Adams had been characters in the show, though I'm sure L Manuel Miranda had his reasons for not including them.   Robert Morris is kind of little-known and obscure, but actually financed a good part of the Continental Army, some historians says that the Revolution would've literally gone bankrupt without his personal financing of the war.

No one thinks Fun Home will perform? I mean, it's a small show but they do have fun commercial numbers and its the reigning best musical.

I figure it'll be that, An American In Paris, Something Rotten, Hamilton, and School Of Rock

Is the parade "pay to play" like the Tonys?

If you are not invited by the Committee (overseeing the broadcast for Macy's/NBC), then yes. It is. And it ain't cheap.

I think it would be easier for Fun Home to perform during CBS' coverage of the parade as they would be performing in their own venue.

I heard School of Rock is performing.

Where did you hear that?

how much is it?

It varies greatly depending on a number of factors. I know productions that have paid as little as $55,000 - $65,000 and as much as $100,000 (or more) for a spot on NBC's broadcast. I am obviously not involved in those decisions so I do not know how they come to the numbers that they do. It should also be noted that amount doesn't even include the actual expenses of performing the number; recording fees, personnel costs, transportation, wardrobe and sundry, etc.

I suspect Fun Home will nkt perform, but someone from the cast will be on a float, as is what happened the last time an adult themed work, (Spring Awakening) won Best Musical. Book of Mormon chose not to perform.

Definitly Performing are

King and I

Elf

Probably Performing

An American In Paris

Finding Neverland

Something Rotten

May Perform:

School of Rock

On You Feet

10 minutes from MISERY! Just what the parade needs to liven it up, IMHO

But isn't putting an  extra 10 minutes of Misery into the parade telecast being redundant?

It should be soon. We should all expect to see performances from Beautiful, Jersey Boys, and The Lion King on CBS.
