Last night, our friend @RuthieAnnMiles was a triumph in @kingandiwestend. Every moment was a gift and continues to be. She is singing like an angel and commanding the stage with a heavenly force. An inspiration to all. I knew you would want to know.
Saddest songs in musical theater Jun 25

Mostly more contemporary choices that have struck me recently. Some are just incredibly moving not so much “sad.” “Unlikely Lovers” - Falsettos “It’s Quiet Uptown” - Hamilton “She Used to Be Mine” - Waitress “Prayer” - Come From Away “Heartbreaker” - Bright Star
I have to say, the principals in the Carousel cast have really had a excellent attendance record, especially through the crush of awards' season. I saw it on the Tuesday after the Tonys and everyone was in fabulous voice.
I would say definitely LaChanze and either Loudermann or Kilgore.
How is Phantom these days? Jun 15

I saw Phantom a few weeks ago. I agree that Crawford is quite good. The audience was horrible.
The thing that bothered me most was the sound mixing. The orchestra is so overpoweringly loud that it makes it difficult to understand what the actors are singing. I have excellent hearing btw, and was seated about 12 rows back in the orchestra. The poor sound also actually made it sometimes seem like the actors weren’t singing live. I know they were and I don’t know if that makes any sense b
I saw Carousel about 2/3 of the way through previews and made a return visit yesterday, Tuesday. Carousel is one of my favorites and while I still struggle with the cuts that were made, I have a great appreciation for this production's existence and I left feeling happy and moved by it. I found the show to be more polished, particularly the blocking of the dramatic scenes. Jigger is still not being played appropriately, which is irksome. The orchestra is sublime. I'd listened to

If you think Trump is ever going to miss something said about him on American television, you’ve been missing the past three+ years. All he cares about is himself and ratings and attention. He may not have watched the Tony Awards but h
Robert De Niro. Jun 11

I hate Trump as much as the anyone could and I thought De Niro was childish last night. So many award winners said basically the exact same thing in their speeches about inclusion and diversity in a much more eloquent manner. He took the easy way to get a laugh and applause and looked like a moron flexing his arms on the stage.
Its disappointing that he has stolen the headlines from the artists who performed and won awards last night.

I guess not everyone can have home runs all the time but I am sure I’ll enjoy it. Thank you again for your thoughts. You never know what type of response you get on here - post at your own risk - lol. (I’ve been chided for stupid questions per some. )"
My opinion - I think Waitress is a better show that will translate better away from the original Broadway cast. It's a more well-rounded musical theatre story and experience. I liked DEH and about half of the songs, but think the material was elevated by a few standout performances from original cast members that contributed to the success and hype on Broadway.

Ugh. I don't know why this annoys me so much, but it does. I guess because O'Brien is just doing whatever he feels like to a classic piece of theatre. Also it's even less dialogue in a production that is already dance heavy. Not that the dancing isn't beautiful, there's just a lot of extended dance sequences while actual text is being cut from the script.
That scene with Billy, Jigger and Julie seems pretty important to the plot to me. I can't believe they are still going back and forth on that kind of stuff at this point. Also provides even less stage time for Mueller. So it was IN on Saturday and Sunday, out on Tuesday. Curious to see what happens tonight and later this week.

Not that it's the be-all and end-all of the show, but it is a rather significant scene."

And now, the cast. As I mentioned, Mueller is a fascinating presence, and she has that “otherness” that a good Julie needs—but she’s given nothing to work with! Joshua Henry plays Billy as a one-note bully: there’s zero charm and charisma, just an angry, self-defensive boor. When Julie tells Carri
I saw this on Sunday and was a little apprehensive going in, having read some unfavorable reviews here. I purposely wanted to go later in previews because I expected the show would have lots of early changes. I really enjoyed it an honestly feel that some improvements have been made since the beginning. That's not to say that I don't agree with many of the issues already pointed out, mainly directorial. While I love Carousel, I'll admit that I haven't seen many productions so
That video was hard to watch. It was "Hi, my name is Evan Hansen and today is going to be a great day because I'm auditioning for the role of Tony." The cutting off the end of phrases drives me crazy and it seems to be one of his things - he did it on the Grammys and he did it here.
There were moments that sounded beautiful and I agree with another poster who liked how he almost played with the word Maria, testing it out in different ways. But there are so many
