It's rather interesting that Sher wants THE KING AND I to be a balance of both spectacle and intimate. Plus the sketches that shows Zuber's costumes are wonderful and I can't wait until August when I'll be there.
What an interesting document and interview with Sher… It appears we're going to get a fine, clear-cut, simple, traditional but effective King & I… The sketches and design discussions brings to mind, for me anyway, the 1999 Jodie Foster movie Anna and the King… The design sounds fascinating and I can't wait to see photos of the show eventually.
I wonder how Sher approaches the scene changes, the 'front cloth' scenes, that type of traditional staging stuff? I also wonder how he will approach the opening scene with the boat? Exciting!
You can also tell that this production will be very different from Renshaw's 1996 lavish revival with Donna Murphy - this should be even more truthful to the original story.
Splurged and bought a ticket for the first preview, front row center.
BEYOND excited to finally see Kelli O'Hara live, and for this lavish production.

I just went looking for tickets and discovered that they are only on sale through early July. Is this a limited run? I was planning to see this on my August trip and am now trying to figure out if I should try to get to NYC earlier.
No, but I'm sure they want to see how it sells before releasing more tix.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Interesting, but I was reading this article in the NYTimes which stated that Watanabe was only in the show until July. Could that be why LCT hasn't released tickets beyond that date?
"By the end of February, when tech rehearsal had begun, Mr. Sher was still fretting, still revising. He was reminded that Mr. Watanabe’s contract runs out in July and that if the show is successful as everyone hopes, by May or June at the latest he needs to break in a replacement."
Anyone know why he's contracted for such a short run? Surely TKAI will run far longer.
