Disgusting. You know who many Ethel Merman missed in 1,147 performances and three years of 'Annie'? TWO! "If I'm standin' upright, I go on!".
This Hollywood person has ALREADY missed two performances in previews. Everyone is so goddamned soft these days. There are no more troupers anymore on Broadway. How very sad that is.
A couple of people in this thread are being quite sanctimonious. Not everyone has the Merm's constitution. The woman must be genuinely ill. I'm sure she realizes how important this role is.
Anyway, since we're discussing disappointments, I was disappointed to click on this thread only to find that it wasn't a protest against Michelle "The Other Destiny's Child, No, Not That One" Williams' being cast in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Williams was out last night indeed. I got to see the performance. Gross did well, a little tentative at times, but that's understandable. She does have a really good voice and by the time she got to CABARET, she did a marvelous job. The production is outstanding, and everyone is doing fantastic work. Danny Burstein and Linda Emond play their storyline with such tenderness, it's truly heartbreaking by the end (Emond is particularly fantastic). Cumming is marvelous. I was extremely disappointed not to see Williams, but Gross really did the part justice.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Hi everyone, I am planning to get tickets for Cabaret for sometime in November or December. Does anyone know if Alan Cumming and Michelle Williams will still be in the show at that time? I figure they will be, but I just want to make sure there's no talk of contracts ending, vacations, etc. I really want to see Alan Cumming in this show! Thanks in advance!
Really? March-August seems like a much more believable commitment for a movie star of her size.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
There was an article recently about her moving back to LA to pursue films. I'm guessing the lack of love for her performance may figure into this. (And she wants to go where the bucks are no doubt.)
Not surprised. I said a while back that I did not see her sticking around through next winter with Cumming, even though reports said otherwise. Tony or no, I loved her performance.
As much as I loved Michelle's take, I really want to see what Andrea Goss does in this role.

No, I just meant in the event Michelle had a scheduled absence, I would be more interested to see her understudy.
