The producers are going to have three very pissed off stage moms I'm sure...
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Boy that's a surprise. It seemed like this was never a plan. I mean they don't even have a recording with the four Matilda's who shared the Olivier Award in London - they only have the one with the original three that performed for just a few months before it even got to the West End.
I agree it would be nice to have bonus tracks for Craig and Jill..and yes, I am sure they will use all four Matilda's on the CD. Hopefully that will not make anyone upset. I understand in England, all the girls recorded all the numbers and no one knew which versions they used on the CD until it was completed. And all three girls were used in some capacity.
Interesting. I'm not sure what they should do. For the girls definetly split it up. I think all 4 girls should do Naughty together. That would make it a little different from the London album.
That would be cool. I really enjoy when the four Matilda's share that song...I have watched many video varieties on the internet over and over.
It's not really shared equally on the London CD but everyone has something to do. Interestingly (well interesting to me anyway..LOL), Kerry Ingram, the only girl who transferred to London from Stratford (because the others grew too tall), has the least to do on the CD. But she does the Escapologist number which is more acting than singing - and she is amazing.

OMG, tell me that you're serious!!!!
But, yeah. I'm very shocked since this never happened for Phantom, Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins etc.! I actually hope that Bertie and Lauren are doing it because it won't be the same without them. I wonder if they'll add the Overture.
ljay889: I KNOW! I was trying to get some songs and there were some I wanted and I got them but they didn't sound the same. Even Patina didn't sound the same. Also, the Brits couldn't hit some of the higher notes.
SISTER ACT is a show that truly deserved a new cast recording, given the multitude of changes and new cast members.
I agree with that. The London Cast Album gave me really low expectations for the show. I found i really enjoyed the tour. They should have recorded the Broadway cast to capture "Haven't Got a Prayer" alone. However, I prefer "How I Got the Calling" over "It's Good to Be a Nun."
Back on topic... The announcement of a MATILDA album was quite a surprise. I'm interested to see what they do to set it apart from the London recording.
I'm very excited for this! However, I do hope they do include Craig & Jill as bonus tracks, the new overture (though I hear it's short), and some more dialogue. I'd love the scene between Honey and Trunchbull before "The Hammer." Loved that scene when I saw the show!
Also, I'd say that (because it is so short) it is likely the Overture will just be included at the beginning of the track for "Miracle."
I really hope it does get recorded - idk why you would not record an entr'acte but not an overture (looking at you BEAUTY AND THE BEAST*...).
*The Overture for BATB was not recorded at first bc it was not originally in the show - but there have been MANY recordings since the inception of the Overture that have not recorded it.
Interestingly enough, this has the potential to shake up the Grammy race, which as of now I htink belongs to PIPPIN. We shall see! Even though it is yet to come out, I think this Matilda album will snag a Grammy nom because of the show.
My grammy predictions: - CINDERELLA - KINKY BOOTS - MATILDA - PIPPIN

I am so excited for this. Saw the show last night and absolutely LOVED it. I can't stop thinking about it. Lesli Margherita blew me away. She was HILARIOUS.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
If they don't record the Overture and some additional dialogue then I don't really see the point of this at all. The score hasn't really changed much at all.
I agree that SISTER ACT should should have received a Broadway cast album. I get that it's different producers and one set has chosen to spend money on a new recording and the other chose not to, but Sister Act had two new songs and, in my opinion, a far better cast on Broadway. That one should have been a no-brainer. Eventually they're going to need a reference recording.
Maddie-Not that I feel it deserves it, but I figured with Cyndi Lauper's name attached that would be enough. (I love the show, but feel the recording really doesn't capture the energy of the show.)
It does not at all. It is produced like a pop album instead of a musical theatre album. The orchestrations were altered - there is a lot of missing bass and percussion. For that reason, I think PIPPIN has a greater shot at the Grammy as that recording was immaculately produced.
