Just finished watching this on Amazon and the recording is great! Glad they captured it the way they did

Nope. Bummer because I don't want to buy it to download it just to see it now when I'm getting it on blu-ray. Would rather have a hard copy.

Just watched it. Really enjoyed it overall. That Dragon concept was terrible though. The one they used on the tour was much better. I also thought it was a bit strange that any time in the show when there was a Fiona double for a quick change or whatever, they clearly filmed the scene an extra time with Sutton instead of the double. I guess it works for the film format, but it kind of took me out of it just knowing that it was clearly a shot that was filmed separately.

Noticed that too, willep. I actually thought it worked nicely..

By the way, @radical media, which captured Rent: Filmed live on Broadway, is the company responsible for this recording.

I watched this last night, and quite enjoyed it. I did note that the previously released footage is not actually in the dvd. It's specifically noticeable that Rachel Stern's Freak Flag costume changed from the (rather terrible) humpty dumpty to Tweedle dum. I hate that they did not include the actual curtain call, save for out of order snippets (The credits billing doesn't follow the (reverse) bows order for the principals)

Just watched it! It was great presentation! Were some of the original ensemble members missing in some scenes, but not others? I noticed Jen Cody performed her Duroc track, but another performer performed the rest of her track.

Krysten Wyatt performed the rest of Cody's track. Incidentally The alternate young and teen fionas (fioni?) appear in I'm a believer (and in the younger one's case, the opening scene)

I agree, it's a shame they removed the curtain call. But other than that, the show was incredibly filmed.. the editing is masterful.

I loved it. Gorgeous capture of a first-rate (underrated) production.
I will say though: the lighting does get kinda funky at some points. Sometimes there are some bright washouts, but more often than not, the stage gets very dark. For Who I'd Be (which was the only really awkwardly shot number, though my favorite in the show) you can't even see the moon because the white balance is so off. And that moon was just so pretty!

Interesting, also noticed the dark stage at times. I wish they could have edited "Who I'd Be" with better angles. Watching the behind the scenes feature, it looks like they included mostly shots from the invited performance filmed.

Honestly, after seeing the far superior tour version this was sadly VERY underwhelming. Not even with repeated takes could they make that drag look good and the whole concept of three singers was irritating. A single booming voice suits the Dragon so much better. Updated On: 9/23/13 at 09:05 PM

I think they had a different, better concept for the Dragon in the pre-Broadway engagement with only one actor representing the dragon like in the tour... Anyone got to see it?
The puppet itself was hideous, however.

She still had back up singers, which I don't like. It's idiotic to have both the puppet and an actress on stage playing the Dragon. Where is the focus supposed to be? Choose one or the other which is where the tour & London productions got it right.

Looking at these videos, the Dragon is much better performing Forever! Too bad they changed it too late in the process.

Saw a picture on Facebook of the actors who play Shrek, Donkey and the Dragon at some concert in London in costume... Did they make a special costume for the dragon at this concert or does she appear on stage or does she only have that costume for curtain call only so people know she's the dragon?

In the tour it was just for the curtain call/I'm a Believer. I would assume it was the same in London.

I got my DVd in the mail today and just finished watching it. I really enjoyed the it; I wish other shows would do this! The only thing that bothered me was the special effects they added in just because they could--like the lighting effects when Sutton changed from the Princess to the Ogre.

Also, just wondering, I saw the show 3 times on Broadway and it's been a while so my memory is a little fuzzy...doesn't whoever is playing Fiona not get into the Ogre suit until the very end? Because in this, it was always sutton dressed as the Ogre which would have been impossible during the actual performance with the makeup and such.

It's the actress playing Fiona at the end of Act 1, but when she's in the cabin it's a sub.

A review of the Blu-ray Disc on blu-ray.com.

They don't care for the show much at all, but they say the picture and sound are good, overall.
