It's my first time on here and I had a quick question about the TKTS Booth in Times Square. A couple of my friends and I would like to go see a play either Friday or Sunday and we were wondering how we can obtain tickets. I understand the waiting in line, picking at least 3 shows, and the continuous waiting. But, can we choose a specific area? Can we say that we want the Balcony specifically for The Testament of Mary if it is 50% off and get $25 tickets rather than $50?
I'm also looking at some student rush options. We were thinking of seeing: Peter and the Starcatcher, The Trip to Bountiful, Orphans, or Macbeth. How have those rushes been lately?
I haven't done TKTS in awhile but I don't remember them letting you choose a section. They give you best available and let you know where those are. Then you can make a decision whether you want them or not. They're never going to have $50 seats half off though.
Also if you're seeing a play, there is a play only window with a shorter line.
And the other locations usually aren't as crazy. There's one by the Seaport and one in Downtown Brooklyn.

Oh wow! Downtown Brooklyn is a better option. So if we were to only have like $60 we can be like we only want mezz? I guess it's like they give us what they have. But, they never have those rear Mezz or Balcony seats.
The theater sends over a certain amount of tickets to the TKTS booth. These are usually the highest priced tickets available, and these are the ones they sell first. You cannot pick a section.
I don't know if you and your friends are students but MARY has a student rush. $35 seats and two per ID. I doubt it will be that difficult since the show isn't selling well but it is closing Sunday so I'm not sure now.
I've personally never thought TKTS was a very good deal and only use it in extreme circumstances.

But, I was only using Mary as an example. I saw it last week by myself and am still on the fence of how I feel about it. Sad to see it close so soon.
I'm also looking at some student rush options. We were thinking of seeing: Peter and the Starcatcher, The Trip to Bountiful, Orphans, or Macbeth. How have those rushes been lately?
The PETER rush is... General Rush: $26.50 - Available at the box office on the day of the performance. Cash only. Limit two per person. Subject to availability.
If you want to know when to line up I would search specific threads on here and check what people have to say about the rush policies.
I can tell you that all of the shows you mentioned, except for Bountiful, have performances available for this Friday evening or Sunday matinee. $39 for the bway plays, $28 for Peter. You'll probably get decent seats.
