The original run was set to play until February 10th, but I went on their website and noticed they are now selling tickets through March 10th. I searched and if there was any announcement about this, I missed it.
But only by a month? Seems odd, but good for them!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I was told by someone working on the show that the extension to 3/10 is the furthest one built into the contracts' of the cast. It does seem like a short extension though, I agree.

Roundabout doesn't appear to have anything programmed into Studio 54 for the rest of the season, which suggests that further extenstions might be possible. That could necessitate cast changes, though.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Also, this being Roundabout, the cast is not being paid particularly generously as it stands. I know one or two of them in particular turned down better-paying offers to work on DROOD, so it seems that love of this particular production has mattered the most for now, but with continued extensions, some people may feel entitled to more $$$.
Well after a certain point in the run, I think RTC has to move off the LORT contract (or whatever they actually use initially) to a standard contract, so the running costs would go up.
Good point, frogs. I think it's a good idea for the show to extend as long as is feasible purely because I believe they will be competitive in several major categories come awards' season but to my mind they do have a few financial hurdles to overcome.
I have a feeling this is just the start of having Drood extended until at least the Tonys. I feel it's the current frontrunner to win Best Musical Revival.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
This is one instance where I would be happy to see my ticket to "closing night" turn out to be just the beginning of a long run for such a wonderful show.
