I wonder if it will be limited to the usual 1000.

are there even 1000 people that want the cast recording? ugh this was the 3rd worst show I saw on broadway last year, and I saw everything on broadway last year.

I am very curious how this will play on disc since in the theater the score was beyond forgettable.

I LOVED this show, and am extremely happy the cd is finally being released! The score is uneven but there are real gems like "For This", "Saying Goodbye" and "Selective Memory". I can't wait till December!!

And with this every new Broadway musical (and revival) from last season has a recording of some sort, yes? That's really great, hope that's able to happen more often, despite the difficult economics.

This was one of my favorite shows on Broadway and have patiently been waiting since the cast told me on closing night that they would be releasing a cast recording.

well Maybe it will end up like Nick & Nora and make a great album. Though Nick & Nora had a great score, you just couldn't tell in the theatre

Just to clarify - The People In The Picture will not be a limited edition, just a regular release.

I was sorry I missed this show...I had really wanted to see it, but then heard all the criticism and that made me a bit more anxious just to form my own opinion...wasn't able to get-up to get-up to the city for it.

I think the topic sounded like it could have either been brilliant or a total disaster...but I think the effort and thought that goes into shows like that speak more.

I'll definitely give it a listen!

I really liked the show, but the sound in the theater was pretty bad. I sat on both sides of the mezzanine and heard two completely different scores. Also nearly no lyrics. It will be nice to hear what happens on that CD!

I'm thrilled to know that the 5 people that liked this show will buy it...(I'm of those 5 people)
I remember it used to be expensive to record a CD, I guess it's not anymore.

I imagine it is still very expensive to record a CD. We shouldn't take these releases for granted..

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I'm sort of thinking that they recorded it with a label and then the label dropped the record predicting abysmal sales and Kritzerland picked it up. That's just a guess though.

Not quite. As with 98% of cast albums, the costs of recording were paid by the authors and/or producers. They then hand this product to a label - most labels then insist that the authors and/or producers pay for everything else - printing, pressing, booklet design and any number of overhead fees.

When the label and the authors came to a parting of the ways, I was approached. I agreed to pick up all costs of the actual CD pressing and printing, as I feel that's a label's responsibility. And that's the story.

I agree with golbinau. We've been crazy spoiled with labels like ghostlight, P.S. Classics, Jay, Kritzerland, etc. picking up almost every show on Broadway whether it was a hit or a flop.

But the truth is the demand for these recordings is very limited and I'm sure the profit margin on some of the releases isn't very high.

I'm greatful for any recording that preserves an original cast for posterity.

I don’t think I ever got around to getting this and the show seems to have been forgotten. I guess my main interest is Donna Murphy. Is there anything worth exploring here?

Worth exploring. The book was incredibly sappy but still powerful in places (I mean, it's by the author of Beaches, so what else would you expect). The music was pleasant, with solid performances from Murphy and a very talented supporting cast (Chip Zien, Lewis Stadlen, Alexander Gemignani). Far from one of the great musicals of the past decade, but still worth giving a listen too.

This was the first Broadway show I ever fell asleep at. I saw it in very early previews. In all honesty, though, I wish I’d gone back when I wasn’t so tired.

I saw the show and didn't dislike it... I'd love to revisit the score but don't own a CD player. Bummed to see that the recording isn't available digitally.

I don’t think any of the Kritzerland releases are available to purchase digitally but I could be wrong about that.
