Often people say they "miss" show X, but do they actually physically feel longing for them?
I think I feel longing for Mazzie!N2N and it makes me sad to think about. Is this pathetic?

Posted: 2/7/11 at 5:48pmMy school has a poster for a service that has a person that looks just like, and might be Adam Chanler-Berat on it. Every time I see it, I really start to miss Next to Normal and feel a longing for it.

Posted: 2/7/11 at 9:45pmI feel a longing for "The Scottsboro Boys" still. It took me over a month to get over "South Pacific" though I still miss it. But "Scottsboro" has been strange because I'll have dreams about it; that it will reopen or that there's no chance of it reopening. It just won't let me go.

Posted: 2/7/11 at 9:50pmI think so. I'd compare the feeling of missing a show I really loved to what it's like to miss a person, honestly. When you get used to something being there and then have to adjust to its absence, isn't that only the natural thing to happen There are certain shows that I think I will never stop missing -- or, for that matter, loving.

There are times when I'll turn to one of my friends and say "I need a Xanadu day". It's not just missing the show as a piece but missing the feelings the show brought out in you. Xanadu, for instance. It could be a miserable day outside and maybe in your heart but there was always a bit of sunshine inside the Helen Hayes.
Or with South Pacific. I can honestly say that it was probably the closest thing to theatrical perfection I have ever seen. I not only miss the show itself but the feeling emotions brought forth because of it.

Posted: 2/7/11 at 10:04pm^Eris, what I miss most about South Pacific is the thrust stage sliding back to reveal the orchestra as the Bali Hai section of the overture crescendoed! A one-of-a-kind experience! That and Paulo Szot stopping the show with "This Nearly Was Mine"

I miss Zoe Kazan in Angels in America- whenever I've read parts of the play in the pasy weeks, I can't stop thinking about her performance.
I think I'll never get over my longing for The Pillowman though. I refuse to see community theatre productions of it, because I'm afraid they may tarnish my memory of what was one of the greatest nights of theatre I've ever had.

I agree on both counts. I also loved when the orchestra stood up during the Entr'Acte. Still bummed the PBS doesn't have that.

Posted: 2/8/11 at 12:30amYou are not pathetic, I miss Taboo for example, even after all this time (it's funny cause it closed 7 years ago today.) I miss more of the experience of seeing the show. I always think its a bit strange when you pass a theatre that once housed your favorite show and all the memories of that show have been replaced by the next one.

Posted: 2/8/11 at 1:19amI don't think they get replaced. All you have to do is step inside to see that. It's like a spacial nostalgia for me. I always love being back in those theaters in particular.
