This seems to be, becoming a regular thing... first Carmen, then Stephanie (even though it fell through) and now Jennifer.

How come I feel like it is only a matter of time before they teach one of the American Elphaba's the entire show in either German or Japanese and have them do the show there.

Since I live in Sydney I obviously have the opportunity to see her..is she considered 'good'? I'm not aware of the 1000s of Elphaba's that have played in the US. Did she play it on Broadway?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Saw her Elphaba in Chicago... she's one of the best. I loathe the show, but her performance was spectacular. She's also a dear, sweet person. You're lucky if you get to see her.
As for the casting of an American, it's probably cheaper on short notice to fly/house her there to do it on a limited basis than it would be to cast and hire a local actress and pay for lots of rehearsals for such a short (6 week) stint.

Jen is too good to be a standby. She is one of the best IMO and also one of the most gorgeous Elphie's I ever saw.
Don't believe everything that you hear! Only the peeps involved know the truth!
bubbleblonde, Jennifer is actually replacing Jemma Rix as standby. Jemma's going to be the lead Elphaba in Sydney til whenever Amanda gets better. My guess is that when Jennifer leaves, either Zoe Gertz (Sydney u/s) will be the standby, or Jemma will return and Amanda will come back as lead.
Also, I'm 99% sure that Julie Reiber is going to replace Jennifer on Broadway as standby, so good for her! She's great, too!
So DiNoia is coming here to be a Standby for 6 weeks?
Guh.

i thought she was going to be principal and not standby?!

Jennifer is most definitely standby to Jemma Rix for 6 weeks. I think Jemma is doing very well in the role. I am excited to see Jennifer though. I wonder what this means for the end of the 6 weeks, whether Amanda will return - or another actress...or Paulini?
Since I'm going to try for Wednesday Matt's hopefully I get Jennifer.

I don't understand what goes on down there. OBVIOUSLY Amanda Harrison should be cut! She's missed more shows than she's performed since the opening in Sydney. Jemma Rix is doing extremely well and can easily handle the role. And now Jennifer is transferring? As standby I hope?
Poor Jemma has gotten extremely little recognition for the amount of work she's put in. Ever notice how Amanda shows up to all the press events? I thought it was funny how once Amanda was there to answer questions and take photos, but Jemma performed!
I am not sure what is exactly happening with Amanda, but it she is having a very hard to time performing with the stamina that she used too. They can't simply just find another person to quickly replace Amanda, or Jemma if she eventually get's promoted to the lead. It's difficult as the American producers come over to Aus all the time to observe everything, so they are the ones who makes all the final decisions.
So bringing Jennifer to Sydney is not the worst thing that could happen, it's just an easier way of handling the whole situation. I saw her when I was in Chicago in 2008, and I can't wait to see her again. I think Sydney is going to LOVE her :).
Although, I think Jemma needs more recognition than she gets (which is not a lot). She is fantastic and is doing such a wonderful job.
I don't understand why they hire women 1. for years at a time (cough cough Kendra Kassabaum) and 2. that obviously know that the role is too demanding for them for a long period of time. That's why I like Kristy Cates and Saycon Sengbloh, they both did the show and didn't hurt themselves.

Shows in the 2010 Season for me. 101 Dalmations tour - Jan 24th, Xanadu Tour - Mar 9th and 10th, Wicked - May 14th, Legally Blonde - June 12th:::::::Upcoming - South Pacific, Young Frankinstein (Two Cities) Rock of Ages (Two Cities) Shrek (3 Cities) Les Mis, DreamGirls, Spring Awakening, Color Purple, and 9 to 5!
^^^ Stephanie J. Block played the role on and off for years and didn't damage her voice.
And Dee Roscioli, for the most part, hasn't damaged her voice... she just seems to have a crappy immune system.
As for Jenny and Australia... she doesn't arrive until tomorrow (Wednesday) in Australia, so I doubt they would make her go on as from what I've heard adjusting to the time difference is a b*tch.
