I would LOVE to see Passing Strange in the movie theater but will have to settle for seeing it on IFC On Demand. That is if they decide to load it. It's supposed to be available today, n'est ce pas? it isn't on my tv in the Dallas area and two agents have been able to tell me nothing. Anyone have any info on Passing Strange being shown on demand in Dallas?

Not sure if this has been asked already, but does anyone know if Passing Strange will eventually be released on DVD?

At a screening last Friday at the IFC Spike Lee did say that this would happen "eventually." No details on a date.

I watched it last night and it kept freezing up. I had to keep restarting it. Even with all the problems with my cable I still loved it.

yeah, if anyone is on the fence about paying the 6 or 7 bucks for on demand, it's COMPLETELY worth it. I had my doubts as to whether I'd like this show on film or not - but it is about ten shades of wonderful.

I saw it today and loved it. Easily the best shot film of a stage production I've seen, and of course the show itself is marvelous. I wish I hadn't missed it on Broadway.

I am trying to figure out if I should venture downtown to the IFC Center and see it on the screen there or if I should just take the easy way out and just see it at home On Demand. I don't know what cable service you have but for me I live on Long Island and have Cablevision. And, it was available to watch the day that they said it would be. I do know that for anything On Demand, at least on Cablevision, they tend to update it on midnight the day anything is supposed to be available that day. So, I am guessing that it might have taken a little while passed that for it to be up and ready to order.

I do wonder, for those of you that say that it was freezing during the viewing, I was wondering what cable service you have. I ask this because I have ordered countless things on IFC On Demand being an indie and foreign film lover and have not had a problem with them yet in terms of things freezing etc.

I saw it at Tribeca and then again last week at IFC.....the big screen and the sound quality (along with the solid chance that the run will be extended) makes me encourage people to see it at IFC. Heck it's only $12.....and they make excellent popcorn with REAL butter.

Thanks for all the replies. Time Warner in Dallas doesn't seem to be showing it here unless I'm looking in the wrong place but I don't think so. Sigh....welcome to the provinces. It can be so hard to get good performing arts programming here. Again, if there's anyone in Dallas reading this, tell me if you're experiencing the same problem.

Not sure if it helps you, but menu wise...Passing Strange was under "Same Day As Theater" and then under "Sundance Selects" Rather than IFC on Demand. Granted, I'm not in Dallas - but it did take me a moment to find it on demand. Goodluck Gumshoe!

Is Passing Strange available on DirecTV? I'd like to watch it, but I don't know what channel/if it is available.

Just finished watching it On Demand. I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I can't remember when I've detested a show or its music more. I really disliked almost everything about it. I paid $6.99 for it, so I watched the whole thing, but I honestly couldn't wait for it to end. What a pretentious, self-indulgent, irritating bore.

Luscious, I'm sorry to hear it didn't sit well with you. A friend wanted to watch it and I honestly said "I don't think you'll like it unless you see it at the movie theater."

This isn't a dig at her intelligence or my snazzy tv, but seeing it on the big screen with decent sound behind it was really what elevated the experience for me. I'm thinking about renting it on demand to see if something's lost in translation. But in the movie theater, Lee's choice of angles and cuts catapulted my experience to feeling as though I saw something live.

I wonder if anyone has seen it both in the movie theater and on demand? And if there's any relevance to my pre-bed rant :-p

beewai... I can appreciate that the experience of seeing something at home on a small screen doesn't always translate as well as seeing it in a theatre with an audience, but I watched it on a 52" high-def LCD television in surround sound. I doubt that had anything to do with my experience one way or the other. I think it just comes down to my not caring for the material. I just found the whole thing extremely irritating and grating.

Thinking of watching it tonight. Or tomorrow.

I saw the trailer on-demand....and saw the movie -- both at IFC and the Directors' Guild. IFC is the best way to see it. I just don't think it grabs on demand

BTW -- It's been extended at IFC for at least another week!!
