Beetlejuice

I'm as big of a fan of the musical as the next, but I'm really tired of all this Music Man nonsense. As someone who has seen the show twice during the beginning if its run, I can vouch that there were many empty seats that could cause for alarm. Of course, the tables have turned now and Beetlejuice is doing well, but not as well as Music Man will do. It's strictly a business decision, and it's unfortunate, but can't be helped.

I would love Beetlejuice to transfer more than anything, but I'm with the people that think this improvement in ticket sales is mostly due to the closing date. The Tony/Thanksgiving performances certainly did help a lot, but Beetlejuice didn't start consecutively selling out shows until the closing announcenent.

I'd love a transfer more than anyone else, but I'm not sure they could keep up these numbers and sold out shows for long if they managed one.

If you don't mind SRO, they've veen selling it for the past 25+ shows. My group showed up at 5:45 on a Saturday when they were supposed to start selling at 6:00. There was already a line of 10-12ish people, but the man at the box office said that there would be enough SRO tickets to accommodate the four of us. (ultimately we did watch something else, but the option is there if you ever wanted to go for it). I can't recall the exact price, but I'm almost certain that it was in the $30–39 range.

Good point! I'm sure it's happened before, but this is the first time I really paid attention when a stop clause was mentioned (mainly because of the mass outcry).

Also: when shows close that we know have been struggling, it isn't usually news whether it is strictly a producer's choice to cut their losses or if the stop clause was acted upon.  A good guess (in my mind) is that if a new tenant is announced quickly, it probably was the stop clause.

Hope they have SRO this weekend. Wouldn't mind seeing Will Blum in the role. Blum remains my favorite Elder Cunningham in Book of Mormon.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

David Korins tweeted yesterday asking fans to keep tweeting/asking for a transfer, which confirms nothing has been planned or decided yet.

While there's still 4 months until closing, it's telling that the production has known since early Fall, announced closing in November, and still have no concrete plans to move. It would just be so, so expensive. They'll make so much more money on the road, but they're not going out on tour for 20/21, which is an odd move. Just goes to show the producers really thought the show was dead...where were all these people/fans 10 months ago?

I think the “no concrete plans” question answers itself at this current moment. Where would they move? Can we name one single theater that is available? Even the few that were at one point available (the Marquis, the Lyceum) had potential tenants the entire time... there’s just simply no space, which breaks my heart for them. Yes, it would be expensive, but I think there’s enough love surrounding the show that would get the production to commit to the moving costs were it possible.

Is it that uncommon for a show to tour roughly ~2 years after it starts on Broadway? I don’t think that timeline is that odd...

And I don’t think the producers thought the show was dead, but rather the Shuberts who kicked them out...

If they end up closing and unable to find a theatre to transfer to, then I think they can still send out a tour for the 20/21 season. Possible starting in January 2021.

Besides, June is pretty far off. We don't know if Diana and Sing Street will close, or if Mean Girls and Frozen will have an even worse winter allowing room for a BJ transfer.

The only theatre I see being available is the Barrymore and I can’t see the show fitting there without drastic cuts.

I’m sure this has been covered , so I apologize but I hadn’t seen “Beetlejuice” since it was in DC and didn’t love or hate it then it was simply a “ok, I saw that”.

My friend had an extra ticket and I went tonight, not begrudgingly but not exceptionally excited and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Maybe I was in a bad mood last time or cold or not up for a laugh but it is incredibly smart and funny. I’m genuinely shocked it is closing prematurely .

Other than a very curiously and exceeding disappointing understudy, I found the show damn near perfect.

I think I brushed this show off as a teen sensation and it’s so much more. Lesson learned. I wish them all the best. I’m sitting here stumped as to the whole way this show unraveled .

Which character did you see an understudy for?

Hunter: Your teeth need whitening./ Heidi: You sound weird./ Jeff: You taste funny.
-Jeff Bowen's worst onstage line flub.

Question to a Beetlejuice Connoisseur . Do you find a lot of Alex’s funny lines are ad-libbed are those all scripted? I sent a friend tonight and told them how his acting seemed off the cuff and SEEMED fresh like he changes it-anyone can confirm?
