I stayed at the Ameritania on 54th my last trip and it was probably my favorite place I've stayed in NYC.

Cheap as chips (though I may have just got a great deal) fab room, lovely helpful staff and a great location.

I like the Yotel, but the rooms are bit too small and it's a little out of the way.

That first week of November is the marathon, so hotels will be much more expensive. If you can go in January you can get MUCH better deals. Taking a quick look at google tells me that there are plenty of midtown stays in Jan for $99 and under.

The Row is newly remodeled and in the heart of the theater district. (In January I can easily find 2 day stays for $77/night right now). The Paramount is also a great option ($95/night stays right now in Jan).

Before I traveled as much as I do now, I often had to pad my free nights (paid with hotel points) with cheap nights via vendors like Priceline (Express Deals, Name Your Price). It’s been a few years, but I got great deals that way at The Paramount and The Roosevelt, both in November and scheduled well ahead of time. The rooms at the Roosevelt are not huge, but the lobby is magestic and it’s a part of history. It’s walkable to Theatre District (it’s located right across from an entrance of Grand Central Station). If you use Priceline’s Express Deals or Name Your Own Price, never accept or request a hotel with lower than 3 stars. Those hotels are reportedly sketchy with cockroaches and communal showers and shared bedrooms with bunk beds (although I suppose those last two could fuel some mighty fantasies). The Paramount can’t be beat for proximity to theatres.

I know it's the most you want to spend but looking at HotelTonight for the 2nd week of November, Club Quarters is exactly $450 for Fri 11/08 and Sat 11/09 nights. It's less than a 10 min walk to the theater area.

Ugh didn't notice the additional $22 hotel fee. Still - I know this is more than you wanted to spend anyway.

I’m looking into all options for sure! Realistically, I want to plan around shows if possible as well. January gets dicey for me since I am busy the first two weekends, and cannot go during the week because of a job.
Some shows will close in January that I plan to see so I may have to go out of my price range to make November look. I’ve even started a spread sheet with everyone’s options. Again, I appreciate the help
From all of you!!

I just found this so not sure how legit it is but maybe it's worth checking out snaptravel.com

I found the Amsterdam Court Hotel on there Fri Nov 22nd - Sun Nov 24th for $339.25 total. Week before Thanksgiving.

Yes that's a great price! So I haven't used hoteltonight app since summer 2016 and back then I recall the fees were minimal (around $15-$20) but it looks like hoteltonight charges a $20 fee and on top of that, some hotels charge a resort/service/destination fee of around $40. Crazy! So even if Paramount states it's $99, total will probably be around $160/night. I just checked other hotel sites like expedia and hotels.com and certain times sq hotels now charge a resort/destination fee in addition to the room rate. Crazy! i don't remember this back in summer 2016. From googling it, it looks like some NYC hotels started imposing this extra destination fee back in 2018.

Note not all Times sq hotels have this resort/destination fee. In the hoteltonight app, it looks like Hampton Inn Times Sq, Washington Jefferson Times Sq, Four Points Sheraton Times Sq, Doubletree Times Sq, and a few others do not charge this resort/destination fee.
"

Destination fees are the WORST, though you're right that you can avoid them.  I stayed at the Marriott Marquis this past weekend for the first time ever, which had a fee though I used points for a couple of the nights so that eased the pain a bit.  And you can bet that I was down at the bar fully utilizing that $30/night credit!  That's the key with those fees if you have to pay them - make sure you take advantage of the credit so you get your money's worth.  At the Marquis I could use it on a spin class, a tour ticket, or food/bev.

I'm a Marriott guy myself so I stay pretty loyal to that family.  Oftentimes I will stay downtown on weekend trips because the rates tend to be cheaper.  There's a Courtyard on Greenwich that I stay at a lot, there's tons of Subway lines in the area since WTC is right there, and you may get lucky and get a nice Freedom Tower view.  Often they'll have a rate that includes the breakfast buffet (which is meh, but it's something).  Like someone else mentioned, I'll usually book something so I have it secured and then keep checking until the cancellation deadline in case a better deal pops up closer to the actual dates.

Ended up getting the Yotel for under $100 including charges and a resort fee for mid Oct. I also stay at the LIC Hotel in Queens. Super clean and nice with a 7 minute subway ride into Manhattan."

I'll second 'The Pod' which is a block away from Port Authroty (I take the bus in from RI). I've been staying at The Pod since it opened 18 months ago, never had a problem. I just booked for this Sunday and Monday night (Columbus Day weekend)  at $130 a night for a Queen size bed (plus taxes). I use 'booking.com'.

Keep in mind the rooms are small (hence 'The Pod'Best cheap hotels closest to Bway? and if there's two of you who don't want to share a Queen bed, they do offer bunk beds, too. If you don't mind that - the price and location is right.

The Row NYC is right there and should be around your price range if you book using Hotel Tonight. The rooms are small but clean and it’s in a great spot for Broadway!

The hotel is actually named Pod Times Square, not to be confused with its sister hotels Pod 39 and Pod 51.  I love it for the excellent location, great wi-fi, friendly staff and cozy little rooms.  Pod 39 would be my second choice, but I've not stayed at Pod 51.  Bet it's nice as well.  I always book directly from the Pod Hotels website.

Will be at Pod Times Square 11/4-11/7 for Tina! and Jagged Little Pill.  Possibly Beetlejuice and Derren Brown Secret as well.

Enjoy your visit.

Moxy Times Square can be as cheap as 149 per night from what I remember and I enjoyed the stay there.

POD Times Square is currently looking like the best option for the weekend of October 25, which I know is not what I proposed in my original post but Im liking this last minute idea. Row I can book for $130 each night plus fees, which is good. Pod is a bit cheaper with a bunk, $110.99 for 2 nights. Both are solid options for me right now. I may hop on one of these. Will keep this thread updated when I book. I sincerely appreciate all this help!!!

hotels in the several days prior to Christmas are always very inexpensive compared to their regular rates, because everyone’s staying home/headed to mom’s etc

Yes my bad. I've stayed at the Pod 51 and it's not that great. Most rooms have shared bathrooms.

I think it would be worth the extra $20 per night (Row) to avoid sleeping in a room with strangers.

At the Pod you usually don't share a room with people. It isn't a hostel.

So who sleeps in the other bunk beds? Do you share a bathroom?

Miles2Go2 said: "So who sleeps in the other bunk beds? Do you share a bathroom?"

Pod Hotels have private rooms not shared rooms like hostels (where each individual bed is reserved by a different party). At Pod Hotels you are reserving a room not a bed. If its a two bunk room and you are one person than the other bunk would just be empty because you have the room to yourself. Just to be clear, Pod Hotel is the hotel brand and there are multiple locations within NYC with different room types. Pod 51 has bathrooms (separate from the rooms usually located in the common corridor) that are private single occupant bathroom but are shared by multiple rooms. The upside, these are less expensive rooms, down side is that if all are occupied, you may have to wait. When I stayed at Pod 51 I think there were 3-4 single occupant bathrooms for the floor. Other Pods Hotels may have bathrooms in the room (like the Pod Times Square) and only usable by you.

Hope this clarifies.

Yes, all rooms at Pod Times Square have private bathrooms. In fact, it almost feels like you are staying in a very nice, large bathroom....and that isn't a pan of the space. Love to snuggle up in my single bed pod at night.

I'm jealous, I'm in the city next weekend (AFTER Columbus day) and can't find ANYTHING (including the Pod) for under 200 a night (before fees).  I think the cheapest I found was 280/night (w/fees).  We'll be going back to Boston that night!

But, OFTEN, I am able to find a room under 200 a night - The Row, The Pod....lots of places.

Ya, Row and Pod are my best choices it seems. I just need to lockdown dates now. Im hoping to do a 2 day trip and see 4 shows, so the proximity is going to be key here and paying a tad extra for it is fine by me. Hm though Dramamamma, just yesterday I found a few nice deals for that weekend. Unfortunately I am no longer able to go in 2 weeks but maybe they were snatched up already? not sure, but I did see those on Pod. The weekends after I now can't find anything under 200 either, so maybe I saw truly THE best offer lol.

Just wanted to bump. While I may still go in January, unfortunately due to my company shutting down I no longer have a job Best cheap hotels closest to Bway? so any NYC  plans are currently out of the question, at least for a few months lol. I wanted to bump though as I found all the responses here incredibly helpful for not only myself but id assume with others too. With Thanksgiving and Christmas only getting closer, figured this thread could use a bump, maybe even routinely post new offers and everything for all the non NYC broadway attendees. Hoping to get to NYC soon, but nonetheless, thanks again everyone for all your help!
