Good points - but I'd ray the roles in HAMILTON are both "winning" roles, with the edge going to Burr.
"
And yes, this is probably the closest example of the roles being received equally, but even here, there was a lot more buzz regarding Odom (plus, War Paint is not exactly Hamilton in regards to critical and award recognition)

While this isn't what this thread is about - while the roles were equal, IMO the actors were not and the rightful person won. Patti and Christine are equals, generally speaking.
Back to Bette - when is the deadline for the Tony Awards voting? It has to be soon, right?
Last year, Tony voting closed like the Thursday or Friday before the ceremony. There's definitely a good chunk of time left for voters to fill out their ballots.
LOL I'm not sure an online prediction graph is going to completely account for real life Tony voters. I'd rather see the award go to someone else, but I know Midler will still most likely win.
Bette is WINNING the TONY...enough said! All this backlash kicking in crap on this board is nonsense and a just waste of time speculating this n that!

Like someone else said.. Just bunch of bitter queens that can't get a ticket. But In a year where Trump is our president nothing would surprise me. That said.. nothing touches Bette in Dolly this year. Best thing on the boards on broadway.

My disdain is not sudden. And I actually don't hate her. I love her. I wasn't crazy about her as Dolly and that's it. Nothing personal. I just think most of the other nominees for Best Actress are giving better vocal and acting performances then her. The Bette Midler version of Gypsy was the first one I watched and at the time it was part of the reason I got into theatre. So I certainly do respect her talents and abilities. I'm sure she will win based on the hype.
I enjoy and respect Bette's performance, but I agree, the other ladies in the category are singing and acting circles around her. Regardless, Bette's performance is an event and a spectacle, there's no denying that.
This is all just seems like a desperate attempt by the producers of the Tonys and Hello, Dolly to give themselves more attention and try to "create suspense." Let's face it, if Bette doesn't perform, the Tonys will be a lot less exciting - not to disparage any of the other shows that will be performing, it's just Bette seems like the real "event" performance. This is all just PR horse****, and after the Tonys, we'll all probably feel foolish for being so angry about it. That being said, if she doesn't perform ,and the show were to lose one of the awards, it probably would be Best Revival to Falsettos or Miss Saigon (i'd prefer Saigon but if Dolly loses, Falsettos definitely takes it). However, Bette does seem to be an absolute lock for Best Actress, just based on not only the odds but the general critical and voter sentiment. I think maybe Eva or Christine could pull an upset, but since both their sows got so few nominations, it seems unlikely (I'm exlcuding Patti and Denee because Patti's last win was more recent than Christine's and Great Comet is definitely doing to sweep the technical categories).
