Would it really have mattered, considering how much auto-tuning and amplification they're using? They could have just found those who looked right and acted well.
And I'm a big fan of the show-- just not a fan of the insane "fake-ness" with almost all of the vocals; it takes me "out" of the show. Even the pro Broadway singers in the cast are tweaked almost beyond recognition.

Apparently not...but there are reports he ran away from a group of college-age girls at the N2N stage door so I think he is definitely gay.
:P.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
My friend insists he is and that it's well-known in the theatre community but that his family doesn't know... I'm not sure though- but she even told me she knew the guy he was dating earlier this yr...
I don't see "abercrombie model," but to each their own. He isn't right for the part. He seems too smart almost. The guy playing Finn now is perfect because he's a lovable schlub.
