Thanks all. I could get front row in the balcony, but have decided that's not the way to go. Have now narrowed choices down to row H in the mezzanine or a side orchestra seat, but not first three rows side. Am probably too stoked to wait and do a day of, but most likely will utilized the Broadway Box discount offer to purchase in advance. Will choose very soon between 8/21 or 8/22 performance.

I’d say mezz is the way to go.

I'm not sure what they are doing with the first 3 rows (are they even selling them or rush seats?) But I think you are going to be able to find an amazing seat for a ridiculous price if you only need 1 seat. At least that is what I would do..."

Rows AA-CC won't be on sale. I had tickets in Row AA and was relocated to Row A. They will need the space to accommodate the set and hopefully two of the best gimmicks from London.

Just about every performance is now listed on TDF.

I only saw through 8/18 and I arrive 8/19, but I'll keep an eye out.  Finally joined TDF after lo these many years.  Should still be worth the membership cost, even though I only visit NYC once or twice a year.

It’s def worth it, especially for seeing stuff in previews. Def snagged a ticket for the first preview!!

The fact that the majority of the performances have gone to TDF is no surprise. I hope they are a least able to break even and everyone gets paid.

And that it doesn't get cancelled (again) at the last minute! I booked an entire trip to NY just to see this.

Well, they just completed day nine of rehersal, I believe. Andrew Polec has been posting daily on his Facebook page. Think one photo may have been been Lena Hall, but the face was obscured by a guitar. She's standing on a makeshift bed in the rehearsal room.

Yep, the show's Twitter account retweets all of the rehearsal posts. It's mildly encouraging to see daily indications that this production will actually happen. wink

Going to, finally, pick up tickets to this. I'm too much of a classic rock & theater fan to miss it!

BUT, I'm stuck between 2 location offers, based upon price, etc. I'm hoping that those of you on here who know the show and/or City Center well can offer some recommendations.

Do you think I'd be better off sitting in Row B or C of the balcony, a few seats off center OR, Row E of the mezzanine, dead center?

(I've heard a lot of skepticism about the views from the balcony. BUT, might Mezzaine, Row E's distance back be worse.

Thanks

I would sit row E Center Mezzanine. And I say this as a person who is quite familiar with the seating chart. B or C balcony would not be bad but there could be some minor sightline issues if the set design has levels that go all the way back to the upstage brick wall. Hopefully the director is adjusting the staging to the City Center sightlines. If you were talking H through M Mezzanine I would refer you to B or C balcony. Those are actually some of the worst seats in the house. But center E Mezzanine is actually a great seat!!

Thanks a lot! I'll likely go with that (barring some unexpected recommendation from the box office attendant)!

Just went to the box office, so I wanted to share the info I got from the box office attendant.

I asked for his opinion on the seat location possibilities I laid out above. He actually recommended I get some seat in the front row of the balcony, a little off center. He brought up the point that it overhangs at the same point as the previously mentioned Row E of the mezzanine.

Also, it must be noted that he did have some idea of the show. He mentioned how the show was staged in some massive theaters in London & that it WOULD BE tweaked for this version. He, specifically, mentioned that it was going to be done a bit DOWNSTAGE & he brought up the fact that the 1st few rows of the orchestra were removed for the production.

With all of the speculation we've done around here, regarding how the show will translate, I figured I'd pass on this info. It seems it is IN FACT going to be tweaked for this theater.

Was that not the case for London, for the car at the end of "Paradise"?

They are not going into tech at City Center until Road Show closes. I do not know how they could go into tech in a rehearsal room.

I think the whole thing about Mezz E verses the first couple of rows in the balcony was a bit of a coin toss to begin with. It sounds like the person in the box office was giving out good advice. I guess if I see things in the balcony at City Center there is a feeling of looking down upon the production where I do not feel that way in the Mezzanine.

WINNER! BEST MUSICAL proclaims the ad in giant bold print across the top of the email I got from PlaybillCub, with tiny, tiny, tiny print below that banner indicating the award was given by the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Best Musical? What was it running against?

Eff you Steven Sondheim!   I'm really a fan, but I think this is hysterical.
