Beetlejuice is that show that honestly shocked us all with that fact it hasn’t closed yet. Their performance today showed me why it hasn’t. They take the time to cater each individual performance to to the occasion and/or venue. I commend that.

The ET Infinity commercial or the Sky commercial?? Are there two separate ones?? I only just discovered the Sky one via Facebook and I’m pretty sure I’m still recovering from my heart exploding...

EDIT-Never mind, same commercial but oh my lands MY HEART

Just like the Tony Awards I thought Beetlejuice outshone all the other performances today.

I did not enjoy that. Maybe I’ll finally see it from a discounted balcony seat when it tours through Oklahoma City. I would like to see Mary Kate Morrissey (previously Elphaba on Wicked tour, now on the MG tour) again.

Beetlejuice had me ROLLING! Best Macy’s performance I’ve seen in a minute.

Tina was okay. Poor Adrienne Warren in that dress in this weather - I hope she is somewhere warm right now.

Hadestown was bland, but as long as you keep your eyes on Timothy Hughes, everything is okay.

Ain’t Too Proud - same old, same old.

I'm generally against juke box musicals and everything they stand for. On the other hand, I have to admit that the music for Tina and ATP is so much more engaging than either of the new scores featured in the parade.

While it doesn't interest me at ALL, I give pops to Ain't Too Proud for a pretty high energy performance. Same for Tina. Their dancing was great but just not my cup of tea. Hadestown I love love love the show but the more I see them perform on TV, the more I realize you really need to see it IN THEATRE to get the whole experience of it. Fell a little shorter then I hoped but still good.

And then, the KING OF KINGS of live TV performances NAILS is again! I give the Beetlejuice team SO much props and credit for constantly taking this one song and making it fresh and new EVERY time they do it by tailoring the lyrics to where they perform it. Amazing. And amazing that they rewrote a part of this already rewritten number! In the footage from their rehearsal a few nights ago, the line on the coffin was "If you die during the parade, the balloons will not stop." But when the high winds left the chance that the balloons could be grounded, they re-wrote, re-record, and remixed the track to "If you die during dinner, you don't have to wash the dishes." MAD IMPRESSED with their dedication, as always.

The rewritten coffin joke was better than the first version.

This video Leslie Kritzer made for Broadwaycom is everything. The subtle dig towards the M*sic M*n and the complete honesty their show isn’t a financial success is quite hysterical.

Yes, all performances at the parades are lip-synched due to sound logistics. That’s why you’ll notice performers are atsometimes a little off as they are lip-syncing to the feedback on location that isn’t properly synched to the camera feed. This was evident during the beginning of the BEETLEJUICE performance.
"

I was really bored this year. I think in part it's that I notice the lip-synching more than ever. I appreciate Beetlejuice changing up their lyrics but the songs still sound annoying and unpleasant to sit through. I wanted to see Tina and Hadestown anyway. I do agree that Adrienne sold the show and that Hadestown needs to be performed in a theater. I do want to see Ain't Too Proud but I don't know if I'm motivated enough to see the remaining OBC. Absolutely no desire to see Mean Girls. CBS was a wash this year. 2 Miranda Lambert performances?

I’m just watching the CBS parade coverage now. I actually thought Miranda did great (vocals a little shaky on Settling Down). I especially loved the wordplay in Bluebird. And this is coming from someone who is not generally a country music fan.

But yeah...it’s a problem when the highlight of the live CBS parade coverage is...two prerecorded performances inside of the Stephen Colbert show.

The TINA performance was electric. Adrienne Warren is a STAR.

I agree with you, "Beetlejuice" was the best but to be fair I don't think "Hadestown" is a show that will come off well in this type of performance. Others thought "Tina" was electric and I am like you, thought it was ok. Maybe it was because I actually saw Tina Turner in Las Vegas (70's) and nothing can compare to seeing her live back then. "Ain't Too Proud" just reminded me of "Jersey Boys" only it had better music and dance moves.

Huh? They changed the lyrics to suit the parade, Alex sung it perfectly, it was exciting and full of energy and completely fit into a parade atmosphere. They sold a ton of tickets off that performance.

I love Hadestown, but that song was so awkward and when you can hear everyone talking in the crowds, and there are a ton of pauses, it's very uncomfortable. The show is amazing in the theater, it doesn't translate well anywhere else.

I have to say, TINA really impressed me, and later at dinner with the family, that was the one show that they all mentioned interest in. Beetlejuice was a lot of fun. Ain't Too Proud was good but I think it went on a little too long. Hadestown barely left an impression, it just didn't work out there on the street and out of context.

Mean Girls was kind of depressing, actually. It looked like it was filmed in a vacuum and the principal cast barely seemed interested to be there.

My friend whose sense of humor would seem to make him a natural audience, said this about Beetlejuice’s performance:

“ It was meh for me.”

FYI - totally anecdotal but my friend I referenced above is going to be in NYC two weeks after me for work. He’s going to be there 6 nights and is seeing 7 shows. Until earlier this year, he had never been to a Broadway show despite working frequently in NYC. I challenged him to see his first show and now he can’t get enough. Lol. Anyway...

He already had tickets for Moulin Rouge!, JLP, Hadestown, and (this one supriised me) both parts of The Inheritance. I was surprised because he’s a 30-something straight guy who up-to-now hasn’t shown much interest in non-musicals. He’s looking at Rock of Ages for his Monday evening show.

Anyway...back to the point of this post. He had one slot left (Friday Night). He was deciding between Ain’t Too Proud or Beetlejuice. He chose ATP. Before the parade performance, this was barely even on his radar. To be honest, he said he was able to grab a cheap seat for ATP that was $20 cheaper than Beetlejuice so that was the ultimate deciding factor. He also said he got it via broadway.com (despite me telling him about they’re atrocious handling fees), but he seems happy with his purchase.

Those parade performances really do sell tickets. Not that ATP is having any trouble in that regard.
