Unless its coming directly from LCT, I don't buy it.

Official press release or nothing. Frank DiLella isn't exactly the kind of contact who's brimming with breaking information.

Also, once last time, for what it's worth. I mean, COME ON.

Concierge, have you heard about Soo's casting in the upcoming Carnegie Hall presentation of OF THEE I SING? It may be something worth catching for you especially!

I've had a celeb-crush on her since Six Feet Under. If they let her be a redheaded Eliza she'd turn my head at the ball Eliza? - My Fair Lady Revival 2018

Enjoying the speculation, and desperate to see the show live-only ever seen the film, and it's my favourite-, it hasn't been staged here in forever so planning a trip to NY in May!

Slightly off topic but since you guys seem to be in the know, when can we expect tickets to go on sale, roughly how far in advance do the Lincoln Centre put them up? I want to start organising my trip so would be good to know when I can expect to be able to buy tickets.

Thanks

Good question. Lincoln Center opened ticket sales for The King and I (their most recent big musical production) in mid-October 2014. Since TKAI started previews in mid-March 2015 and My Fair Lady will begin previews in mid-March 2018, I expect tickets to go on sale around the same time, in the middle of October 2017.

Looks like it's going to be Lauren Ambrose. As fluffy as Page Six and BWW are, I can't imagine a situation where articles about her getting tapped for the role are followed by a press release with a different Eliza.

Maybe for Mrs. Higgins.  She's 30 years too old for Eliza.

Looks like basic arithmetic isn't your strongest skill. 30 years younger than Ms. Ambrose, would have Eliza at age 9.

I happen to know someone who is close to two people who were rejected for the part. Let's just say Bart Sher pissed off some pretty big names by casting Lauren Ambrose.

I just hope no one writes "Eliza Doolittle is a tampon" on her locker.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I just saw a local production of MFL and the whole time I thought how perfect Ms. Benanti would have been. Such a shame.

That's Bart, and I can tell you he doesn't give a rat's ass about pissing off big names. Artistic integrity comes first and always.

Bart really is brilliant, but I still can't wrap my head around his casting here.  There are so many broadway actresses who could have played this part.  Why grab a nearly unknown 40 year old TV actress to play the part?  I would have loved for him to have gone with an unknown or a broadway actress, or a performer from the opera world.  I mean, is anyone really all that interested in seeing Ambrose in this role other than Sher?

I certainly am. I can't speak on behalf of the theatre going public. If what I heard during callbacks is any indication, she'll be a sensation. I was blown away.

Any rumors as to who Higgins is?

You and I have largely been on pretty much the same page throughout this whole thing (even though we disagree about Phillipa Soo!), but I have to give dear Bart the benefit of the doubt here. Indeed, Ambrose seems a completely bizarre choice, but at the end of the day, we weren't in that audition room when she was before him. She might have something transcendent that Bart knows he can harness into a sensational Eliza Doolittle that we just haven't seen yet. His track record is too wonderful for me to write this off as a stupid casting choice.

Again, it'll be funny if we're all discussing this and Ambrose somehow doesn't end up being Eliza... but I think we need to remember who's at the helm here and give him and his choices credit and faith.

I'm sure that she'll be sensational, especially under Sher's direction, but so far the general consensus from everyone that I've spoken to has been "huh?"  She's just kind of a bizarre choice.  I know LCT doesn't need to necessarily have a big name or a broadway favorite, but it probably would have helped the hype around the production to cast a well loved actress.  Now everyone kind of has a "She got cast over *insert name*?!?!?"  Everyone's just a bit puzzled.  It was certainly an unexpected choice.

Also Concierge, I do really love Soo and I would have been thrilled to see her get this part.

Colin Firth, Kevin Kline, Brannagh......I've lost track. Personally, I've got fingers and toes crossed for Firth.
