Taking a beloved 90s movie and turning it into a Broadway musical is a tall order. You're competing with nostalgia, a legendary film performance, and the simple fact that what works on a movie screen doesn't always translate to the stage. Tuesday night, the North American tour of Mrs. Doubtfire opened at the BJCC Concert Hall to tackle that challenge, closing out the Broadway in Birmingham season.
In a musical built on speed, noise, and frantic clothing changes, someone has to hold the floor. In the touring production of Mrs. Doubtfire, arriving Tuesday at the BJCC Concert Hall, that weight falls on Wanda Sellner, a court-appointed social worker.
The national touring production of MRS. DOUBTFIRE, based on the 1993 film, is set to play Birmingham's BJCC Concert Hall for eight performances as part of the Broadway in Birmingham series.
The American Theatre Guild has announced the 25–26 Season for the BJCC Concert Hall. The 25–26 BROADWAY IN BIRMINGHAM Series will include WICKED, CLUE, KIMBERLY AKIMBO, MJ, & JULIET and MRS. DOUBTFIRE.
