Today in 2011, Follies opened at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 152 performances. Follies is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Goldman. The story concerns a reunion in a crumbling Broadway theatre, scheduled for demolition, of the past performers of the 'Weismann's Follies,' a musical revue (based on the Ziegfeld Follies), that played in that theatre between the World Wars. The musical was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won seven. The piece has enjoyed a number of major revivals, and several of its songs have become standards, including 'Broadway Baby', 'I'm Still Here', 'Too Many Mornings', 'Could I Leave You?', and 'Losing My Mind'.

Mike Tyson might have already made his Broadway debut in UNDISPUTED TRUTH, which played the Longacre Theatre over the summer, but according to the Telegraph, he would like to star in a musical next. He told the Telegraph: 'I want to dance and sing. I want to do some dancing and singing musicals.'

Michael Attenborough's production of William Shakespeare's King Lear is playing at The Almeida Theatre until 3 November 2012, with press night 11 September. Designs are by Tom Scutt with lighting by Jon Clark and sound and music by Dan Jones. The Almeida's production of King Lear is part of the World Shakespeare Festival.

Sixty-eight years after its premiere, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams has withstood the tides of change and is sweeping Performance Network Theatre into its 2012-2013 Great American Theatre Season with preview performances September 27 - October 4 and an opening champagne reception on October 5 followed by performances through October 28.

MUSIQA Houston opens its 2012-13 season on September 22, 2012, with the world premiere of Deep Sky Objects by the internationally acclaimed American composer Sebastian Currier. Set to poetry by Sarah Manguso, whose libretto imagines an intergalactic romance, Deep Sky Objects is scored for soprano, piano quintet and electronics; the performance will feature soprano Karol Bennett. The program includes Divided and Scatter-brained from Currier's QuartetSet with the world premiere of choreography by Tina Bohnstedt, danced by Houston Ballet II; and Secret Alchemy for piano quartet by Pierre Jalbert , as well as a set of violin-piano preludes by Lera Auerbach.

Fountain Hills Theater is proud to announce the opening of the zany comedy farce Ashes to Ashes. When Broadway Director R.J. Spaulding wakes from a wild weekend binge, he discovers that he is engaged to three women who think he is alternately a peace activist, a Russian spy and a Mafioso hit man. With the help of his neighbor, lies pile upon lies as R.J. tries to keep the girls away from each other and his alimony hungry soon-to-be-ex-wife. Ashes to Ashes is a wild and funny farce written by Fountain Hills Theater's own Artistic Director, Peter J. Hill. The production premiered at Phoenix Theater in 1996 and was an immediate hit, receiving the 1996 AriZoni Award for Best Original Production.

Yesterday, September 10, The New York Mets partnered with Seraphim12 Foundation on 'Hooves on First' Night at Citi Field when the Mets hosted the Washington Nationals. The fundraiser will raise awareness about the treatment of horses.

Julian Ovenden and Rosalie Craig star in a new musical version of the film Finding Neverland, which starred Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. The musical features Ovenden as Barrie, a role he played in two London workshops last winter, and Craig as Sylvia. The show will have a four to five week run scheduled at the Curve Theatre in Leicester. Performances will run through October 18, 2012.
