Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

First Show:

Favorite Show:

There are so many! Just a few include Ragtime, Merrily We Roll Along, Next to Normal, The Bridges of Madison County, Jesus Christ Superstar, Newsies, and The Secret Garden.

Favorite Stories:

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

April 11, 2020

Mark Fisher Fitness's Steward of Strength Harold Gibbons is here to show you a simple stretch to help free up your hips during busy days of sitting and sheltering. The intention here is to let the adductor muscles of your inner thigh stretch out a bit, like just those groin stretches you did in high school. Start on all fours, extend one leg to the side, and rock forward and backward across that planted foot. 8-10 on each side should help stretch out those leggies!

April 9, 2020

Mark Fisher Fitness's Steward of Strength Harold Gibbons is here to show you a simple stretch to help free up your hips during busy days of sitting and sheltering. The intention here is to keep things fluid by giving your leg bones a chance to rotate within your pelvis as freely as possible, literally lubricating the ball-and-socket joints of your hips. Start in that simple 90/90 position, and pivot around your heels and across your sit bones to switch sides. 60 seconds of this should feel like a great way to move through positions that traditional stretches won't have opened us up to.

Broadway Rewind: Watch Chazz Palminteri in Scenes from A BRONX TALE on Broadway!
April 18, 2020

Today we rewind to 2007, when Chazz Palminteri's autobiographical one-man show A Bronx Tale came to Broadway. It tells the coming-of-age story of Calogero Anello, a young New Yorker torn between the temptations of organized crime and the values of his hardworking father. It originally premiered in Los Angeles in the 1980s, before moving Off-Broadway. After a film version involving Palminteri and Robert DeNiro was released in 1993, a musical version of the story opened on Broadway in 2016.

Salonga, who famously portrayed Eponine in the original production, took on Fantine- previously played by Daphne Rubin-Vega. She would go on to play the role in the 2010 in the 25th Anniversary Concert of the show.

Broadway Rewind: Watch Full Scenes from LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES with Laura Linney!
April 8, 2020

Today we rewind to 2008 for the two-month Broadway run of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, starring Laura Linney, Ben Daniels, Kristine Nielsen, Mamie Gummer and Benjamin Walker. Adapted from the 1782 novel of the same title by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, the play focuses on the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, rivals who use sex as a weapon of humiliation and degradation, all the while enjoying their cruel games. Their targets are the virtuous (and married) Madame de Tourvel and Cécile de Volanges, a young girl who has fallen in love with her music tutor, the Chevalier Danceny. In order to gain their trust, Merteuil and Valmont pretend to help the secret lovers so they can use them later in their own treacherous schemes.

Broadway Rewind: Watch Full Scenes from LOVEMUSIK on Broadway!
April 11, 2020

Today we rewind with LoveMusik, a musical which ran on Broadway for just over a month in 2007. LoveMusik is a musical written by Alfred Uhry, using a selection of music by Kurt Weill. The story explores the romance and lives of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya, based on Speak Low (When You Speak Love): The Letters of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya. Uhry and Prince worked on LoveMusik for four years to develop it into a stage work. The story spans over 25 years, from the first meeting of Lenya and Weill as struggling young artists, to their popularity in Europe and America, to Weill's death from a heart attack at age 50. The Broadway production ran at the Biltmore Theatre (now the Samuel J. Friedman), starring Michael Cerveris and Donna Murphy.

Broadway Rewind: Watch Full Scenes from THE 39 STEPS on Broadway!
Broadway Rewind: Watch Full Scenes from THE 39 STEPS on Broadway!
April 15, 2020

Today we rewind with original footage from The 39 Steps, which ran on Broadway for almost two years from 2008-2010. The 39 Steps is a parody adapted from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock. The play's concept calls for the entirety of the 1935 adventure film The 39 Steps to be performed with a cast of only four. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress (or sometimes actor) plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object. The original Broadway cast featured Charles Edwards, Jennifer Ferrin, Arnie Burton and Cliff Saunders
