What did our critic think of PAUL TAYLOR DANCE COMPANY at David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center?

A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, the world-renowned contemporary dance company driven by a mission to amplify Black culture and Queer stories through dance, honored visionary arts leaders Sarah Arison and Antwaun Sargent at its annual Homecoming Gala. The event was held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Jazz at Lincoln Center, (Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street) and marked the official launch of A.I.M’s 20th Anniversary season. 

Site-Specific Dances, the interdisciplinary performance company led by Michael Spencer Phillips and Dino Kiratzidis, announces Sculpture Dances: Kykuit, an hour-long site-specific performance that animates the sculpture gardens of the historic Rockefeller Estate. Presented in partnership with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund as the finale of the Culpeper Summer Performance Series, the work will premiere September 11–13, 2025 at The Pocantico Center, Kykuit, in Tarrytown, NY. It is also the first immersive performance activation to take place in the Kykuit sculpture gardens.

At Parsons Dance, endurance and impressive physical demand is no surprise. Artistic Director David Parsons, known for his high energy repertoire and peak athleticism, presents a six-work repertoire at The Joyce Theater, including two commissioned works by Robert Battle and Rena Butler.

'For me, the groove is the auditory and physical manifestation of Black people and the Black living experience, which is the joy and pain,' says multidisciplinary artist Tatiana Desardouin. From Switzerland and of Haitian origin, Tatiana is a professional dancer, dance instructor, dance consultant, choreographer, organizer, curator, Lecturer, Reiki, Jewelry maker with a Master degree as adult educator and a Bachelor in Psychology (University of Geneva). Tatiana won several competitions and is regularly invited to give workshops and judge competitions internationally (Japan, Peru, Italy, Sweden, Slovakia, France, Canada, Austria, Switzerland). 

'Sometimes you need the right timing and right frame of mind, and...everything falls into place because you’ve already done the work,' says artist Mike Esperanza. Esperanza is a multifaceted creative force, celebrated for his transformative contributions to the world of dance and choreography. With an innate ability to merge contemporary aesthetics with authentic storytelling, Mike has captivated audiences worldwide. His journey began in Los Angeles and currently in New York City, where he honed his craft, drawing inspiration from urban culture and the human experience.

'Mainstream cultures change fast, and I feel my curiosities do too,' says dance artist Jordan Demetrius Lloyd. Based in Brooklyn, New York, he is currently pursuing a Master’s from DAS Choreography, and holds a BFA from The College at Brockport. Jordan works as a choreographer, teacher, and performer, creating a multidimensional practice that allows him to explore dance from different orientations. As a performer, he has collaborated with and performed for Beth Gill, Netta Yerushalmy, Jonathan Gonzalez, Tere O’Connor, David Dorfman Dance, Donna Uchizono, Monica Bill Barnes, Joanna Kotze, and more.

Izzy Pereira is a professional dancer currently based in New York City, originally from Toronto, Canada. Izzy recently graduated from Pace University with a BFA in commercial dance. Professionally, Izzy has been in a national commercial for Snapchat, was in a short film with NYC’s Wolf and Swan Company and most recently she was the rehearsal director and the assistant to choreographer KingChris for pop artist Tash Blake’s European tour.

'My work is really rooted in connectivity and community,' says New York based dancer and choreographer Keerati Jinakunwiphat. Jinakunwiphat, born in Chicago IL, received her BFA from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase and was a recipient of the Adopt-A-Dancer Scholarship. She has worked with and performed works of artists such as Kyle Abraham, Nicole von Arx, Trisha Brown, Jasmine Ellis, Hannah Garner, Shannon Gillen, Paul Singh, Kevin Wynn, Doug Varone and more. Keerati joined A.I.M. by Kyle Abraham in 2016 and performed and collaborated with the company for seven seasons. 

The mission of A.I.M by Kyle Abraham is to create a body of dance-based work that is galvanized by Black culture and history and features the rich tapestry of Black and Queer stories. The work, informed by and made in conjunction with artists across a range of disciplines, entwines a sensual and provocative vocabulary with a strong emphasis on music, text, video, and visual art. While grounded in choreographer Kyle Abraham’s artistic vision, A.I.M draws inspiration from a multitude of sources and movement styles.

Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett are partners in both life and their creative endeavors. Based in Brooklyn, NY - they construct dance works, films and research-based practices aimed to disrupt assumptions of performance and personhood.

“Growing up, I was a singer as well as an actor, but dance is what I fell in love with,” says New York-based choreographer and licensed acupuncturist Adam Barruch. “I’m very much interested in the intersection of healing and dance and seeing how they intertwine.” Barruch began his career as a young actor, performing professionally on Broadway and in film and television, working with prominent figures such as Tony Bennett, Jerry Herman and Susan Stroman. He later received dance training at LaGuardia High School for Music & Art and Performing Arts. After three years, he graduated early and was accepted into the dance department at The Juilliard School.

'I think the necessity to shapeshift, to be adaptable and to read a situation show up as key parts of a 'Bronx aesthetic' expressed in my work,' says Bronx-based movement artist Alethea Pace. Pace is a multidisciplinary creator committed to making work in and with her community that is rooted in social justice. She is a 2023-2025 Civic Practice Partnership Artist in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a 2024 MAP Fund grantee.
