The Sacrifice of Farinelli at Bluestone Church Arts Space

Subverse Theatre presents the premiere season of an original Australian work written and directed by Stuart Bruce, inspired by the extraordinary story of Carlo Broschi—the legendary castrato Farinelli—and his composer brother Riccardo Broschi. Blending baroque music, immersive theatre, and cutting-edge sound technology including an ultrasonic speaker, the production examines the human price of pursuing perfection, asking timeless questions about ambition, authenticity, and the destructive allure of fame. The sound design features works from Vivaldi, Bach, and Handel alongside modern EDM elements, live violin, and singing, with physical theatre performed by Jesse Vasiliadis, Elsa Caruso, Luca Mckenzie, Evangelos Arabatzis, Mathew Da Via, Francesca Michelis, Fiona Crombie, Marlon Dance-Hooi, Carla Maggio De Leo, and Tristan Bell.
