CHARO, the music and pop culture icon, queen of kitsch and cuchi, cuchi, AND serious virtuoso Flamenco guitar player returns to San Francisco for the first time in over ten years. Charo will take to the stage and both play solo Flamenco guitar as well as be accompanied by a 4-piece back-up band: Patrick Karst on Keyboards, Rick Powell on Drums, Jonathon Rem on Bass, and Bennett Roth-Newell on Keyboards. Born Maria Rosario Pilar Martinez Molina Baeza in Murcia, in southeastern Spain, Charo (short for Rosario) is much more than just cuchi cuchi: she is a singer, dancer, comedian, actress, and accomplished classical and flamenco guitarist. A guitar protege at the age of 9, Charo studied with Andres Segovia, the father of modern classical guitar music. She has twice been named the "Best Flamenco Guitarist in the World" by Guitar Player Magazine. Charo made countless appearances on numerous TV shows in the 60s and 70s. She holds the record for the most Love Boat appearances (21 to be exact); played Aunt Charo on the sitcom Chico and the Man; appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, Laugh-In, The Carol Burnett Show, The Sonny and Cher Show, The Brady Bunch Hour, and on talk shows such as Johnny Carson and The Merv Griffin Show. Charo continued to guest star on numerous TV shows throughout the 80s and 90s; she has been a regular on Hollywood Squares and has appeared on That 70s Show and the reality TV show, The Surreal Life. Charo has also acted in several films including Elvis: Thats The Way It Is, The Concorde - Airport '79 and Moon Over Parador and provided the voice to a character in the 1994 animated film Thumbelina. Charo is a humanitarian and an activist for animal rights and is a member of PETA. She was recently back on the Billboard charts with her latest single dance club hit Espana Cani, the traditional bullfighting song, which she recorded in protest against bullfighting. She also teamed up with World of Wonder to produce the video, entitled Espana Cani: Dance, Don't Bullfight, which became a viral hit. Charo's efforts eventually led to a ban on bullfighting in the Catalonia region of Spain. Charo, who is based in Beverly Hills, continues to tour, entertain, and appear on TV. She has recently taken to social media to engage with her fans and has a large and loyal following on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
