And She Was Loved at Hyde Park Theatre

And She Was Loved is a world premiere one-act play written by Zell Miller III, Austin's inaugural Poet Laureate, and the inaugural production of Black Rose Theater ATX. The play grew out of two personal losses in Miller's life: the death of his mother Vernell Miller and the passing of his longtime mentor, theater icon Laurie Carlos, exploring grief, emotional abuse, memory and healing through poetic storytelling, movement, music and ritual. The production borrows from the mythology of Peter Pan and blends hip-hop theater, jazz aesthetics and gesture language, featuring performers Siobhan Alexis, Marley Miller, Renita Martin, and Dexxi Vaught alongside Miller himself in the role of Peter Pan.
