BWW Reviews: EVIL DEAD -THE MUSICAL Blasts Austin with the Boomstick
by Michelle Hache - September 23, 2014
I was absolutely blown away with just how much I loved this show...and it wasn't just because of the memorable one-liners that the audience all waited for with baited breath. In this comedic take on the 1980s horror franchise, characters and demons sing and dance to catchy songs written specifically for the musical. And, as in the films, Ash is there to dish out his various one-liners and fight the never-ending demons. This was seriously one of the best nights of theatre I've experienced in Austin.
BWW Exclusive: Producer Jeffrey Eckstein on FLAMENCO SEPHARDIT

There may be quite a few ideas and institutions that bond mankind around the world, but there's one that's more powerful than the rest. It's not politics. It's not religion. It's music.
BWW Reviews: THE KING AND I at Zach Theatre is a Sumptuous, Opulent Production of an American Musical Theatre Classic
by Frank Benge - September 21, 2014
Rodgers & Hammerstein are, to me, the comfort food of musical theatre. Of all their shows, THE KING AND I holds up the best some 65 years on. It avoids the saccharine sweetness and didactic qualities of some of their other works. The musical is based on the 1944 novel 'Anna and the King of Siam' by Margaret Landon, which was derived from Anna Leonowens memoirs of her time as governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860's. The musical tells the story of Anna, a British schoolteacher hired as part of the King's drive to modernize his country. Their relationship is marked by conflict as well as by a love that neither can admit to. Premiering on March 29 in 1951, THE KING AND I ran nearly three years, and, at the time, was the fourth longest-running Broadway musical in history.
BWW Reviews: MacTheatre Has Definitely Got It and Flaunts It in THE PRODUCERS
by Wendi Reichstein - September 19, 2014
"I really, really miss high school theatre." This was the first thought I had as I entered, sat and watched, and exited McCallum Fine Arts Academy' production of The Producers. Because I first-handedly know how much work- and how much fun- it is to spend countless hours rehearsing (need to interject that these dedicated students spent their summer rehearsing for this show), running the show countless times, and making several costume and set changes, showstopping numbers, and putting on a beloved Broadway musical on their high school stage look easy. And MacTheatre pulled it off.

Wimberley Players Open YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Tonight
by BWW News Desk - September 12, 2014
When the Wimberley Players stage The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein, tonight, September 12 - October 5, audiences can expect packed houses and a hilarious good time as only Mel Brooks can deliver. A spoof of classic horror films of the '30s and '40s (as seen in the 1974 movie of the same name), it is a rowdy, 'bawd-villian' frolic of the Frankenstein story in the best tradition of Borscht-Belt comedy.
