Behind the Dark Gray Wall is an emotional one-act play, which combines many award-winning poems and short vignettes by playwright Larry N. Stromberg, who is currently incarcerated and serving time at SCI Phoenix in Pennsylvania.
The play examines the mental, physical, and spiritual state of a diverse group of men and women who have been locked away for their crimes. Many of the scenes depicted in this show are based on true, firsthand accounts of life in prison. This play examines exactly how this imprisonment truly affects each of the detainees’ inner souls in their day-to-day struggles of prison life.
Mr. Stromberg peppers every scene with the harsh realism that can only be found by being locked away within this heartless setting. From the compassionate story of a “lifer,” who gets to visit his dying father, to the tender tale of what truly goes on deep within the dark mind of an insane woman, Behind the Dark Gray Wall weaves a compilation of stories that will move and resonate with the audience with each compelling scene and verse.
The touching and sometimes heart-warming ways in which these stories are presented will certainly echo in the hearts of audiences for a lifetime.
