BWW Reviews: Serenbe's OKLAHOMA! Provides Unique Excitement That Will Make All Fall in Love with Theatre
by Matt Tamanini - July 31, 2014
The theatre-going experience at Serenbe Playhouse is as exciting as anything I've ever seen. It's not the excitement manufactured by the tricks and effects of modern theatricality (not that I don't love those as well), but this is the type of excitement that you feel in your bones. The type of excitement that makes you forget that you are an adult watching other adults pretend. This is the type of excitement that makes you fall in love with live theatre.

There is something very special, even magical, in the wind in Lawrenceville this summer. As he did with last year's LES MISERABLES, director Justin Anderson has found exciting ways to bring new life to a beloved show that we know so well. Under his capable direction, MARY POPPINS is transformed from the classic movie of chalk drawings and dancing penguins into a poignant tale of a loving family in need of saving from its own prosperity, with a pinch of magic on top. This family-friendly classic, which runs through August 31st, is a can't-miss for fans of wonder and magic, both young and old.

BWW Reviews: Stage Door's ODD COUPLE Brings Nuanced Laughs to Classic Comedy
by Matt Tamanini - July 18, 2014
Perhaps no modern play has been so engrained in our country's consciousness over the past five decades as Neil Simon's classic comedy, THE ODD COUPLE. That fact notwithstanding, Stage Door Players' production, running now through August 3rd, still finds new and inventive ways to entertain. The production, directed by Shelly McCook, stars Stage Door's Artistic Director Robert Egizio as uptight Felix Unger, and the Atlanta Lyric Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Alan Kilpatrick as the slovenly Oscar Madison. Oscar takes in his best friend Felix after he is kicked out by his wife, despite the fact that the two have little in common, other than their weekly poker game.

BWW Reviews: GA Shakespeare's ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS is as Good as a Summer Comedy Gets
by Matt Tamanini - July 16, 2014
There has barely been a bad word said about this show since it debuted on Broadway in 2012 (racking up seven Tony nominations), but because I didn't know much about it, I took a while to settle into the comedic rhythm of Georgia Shakespeare's production of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. However, once I realized that the show was far more farcical than I at first realized, it became one of the most laugh-out-loud, joyous nights of theatre I have had in years. So, if you go and see this show (which you absolutely should) simply give into the goofiness; you will thank me when you do.
