The Sweet Charity Dance On Broadway Contest, sponsored by Marie Claire  and the producers of Sweet Charity, has announced a winner.

The contest offered Broadway hopefuls everywhere the opportunity to appear in the hit Broadway revival Sweet Charity starring Christina Applegate.  Ten finalists were selected from entrants nationwide and competed for votes via the Sweet Charity website.  Thousands of votes were cast and Diana Reed has been chosen as the winner.

On Friday, December 16, Reed, from Norwalk, Iowa, was flown to New York City to prepare for her 'Broadway debut.'  Over the past few days Reed enjoyed private dance lessons with the Sweet Charity choreography team (led by Wayne Cilento), was fitted for a costume and a wig and attended a performance of Sweet Charity.  Reed, a student at the University of Iowa who has been dancing for 18 years, said of this opportunity, 'I am beyond thrilled.  This is truly a dream come true for me."

Reed will join the company of Sweet Charity in 'I'm A Brass Band" at the Monday, December 19th performance.

Sweet Charity, performing at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 W 45th Street), is a "funny, poignant and tender look at the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine (Christina Applegate), a dance-hall hostess who always gives her heart – and her earnings – to the wrong man," state press notes.  Sweet Charity also stars Denis O'Hare as Oscar, Mylinda Hull as Nickie, Kisha Howard as Helene, with Ernie Sabella as Herman and Paul Schoeffler as Vittorio.

Sweet Charity, which is directed by Walter Bobbie and features a score by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields and a book by Neil Simon (based on the Fellini film Nights of Cabiria), will close on December 31st.

Tickets for Sweet Charity can be purchased by visiting www.telechrage.com or by calling (212) 239-6200.
