Violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley Returns to Brevard Music Center

The Brevard Music Center (BMC) has announced the return of Asheville-native Noah Bendix-Balgley to its 2018 summer music festival. Bendix-Balgley, the First Concertmaster of the world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic, will perform his own composition, Fidl-Fantazye: A Klezmer Concerto, on July 27th at 7:30 p.m. at BMC's Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium (WPA). On July 30th at 7:30 p.m., Bendix-Balgley and friends take center stage at Brevard College's Porter Center for an intimate chamber performance. On Saturday, July 27th at 7:30 p.m., Noah Bendix-Balgley will perform his composition, Fidl-Fantazye: A Klezmer Concerto, which made its world premiere with Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in June 2016. Born in Asheville, Bendix-Balgley recalls the following about BMC, "as a child I would go to concerts at the festival, particularly those featuring famous violin soloists. So I'm thrilled to return to Brevard this summer to present my own work...a wonderful counterweight to my classical playing, since it allows the performer to improvise and embellish on the spot." The Concerto will be followed by Tchaikovsky's emotional and urgent Symphony No. 4, led by "one of the finest conductors of her generation" (New York Times), JoAnn Falletta. On Monday, July 30th at 7:30 p.m., Noah Bendix-Balgley & Friends will be presented at Brevard College's Porter Center. Joining the violinist on center stage for Brahms Horn Trio and Mendelssohn's String Quintet No.2 will be his Berlin Philharmonic colleague Stephan de Leval Jezierski (horn), as well as BMC esteemed faculty members Norman Krieger (piano), Marjorie Bagley (violin), Scott Rawls (viola), Juliet White-Smith (viola), and Jonathan Spitz (cello).

The 2018 Brevard Music Center Summer Festival features a full schedule of 80 unforgettable performances from June through August. Remaining season highlights include the genre-blending string trio Time for Three, Janiec Opera Company of BMC performances of Bernstein's Candide and Sondheim on Sondheim, a dramatic season finale weekend featuring The Planets, Pictures at an Exhibition, and Bernstein's Mass, and Grammy award-winning artist Béla Fleck, who brings his inaugural Blue Ridge Banjo Camp and a special finale concert to BMC in August.

BMC 2018 SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL TICKET INFORMATION Tickets to the 2018 Summer Music Festival start at only $20 and almost 50% of all performances are free. Lawn seating at Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium - BMC's 1800-seat, open-air auditorium - is free for children under 17* with a paying adult, and students 18 and older* with a valid ID (*some exclusions apply, including the Season Finale and BMC Presents performances).

Founded 82 years ago, the Brevard Music Center stands as one of this country's premier summer classical music training programs and festivals.
