Broadway's Taye Diggs (Rent) stopped by this morning's TODAY on NBC to talk about his new detective series titled 'Murder in the First'. The actor also explained why he currently follows tens of thousands of people on Twitter. "I'm a little embarrassed by Twitter talk," he joked. Check out the appearance below!

The new TNT crime drama MURDER IN THE FIRST, from Emmy-winner Steven Bochco, follows the investigation and trial of a high-profile murder case. The series premieres on June 9 at 10/9c.

In the 10-episode series, Diggs portrays SFPD homicide inspector Terry English, who's coping with his wife's terminal illness and is tasked with solving two murder cases that seem to involve wealthy tech genius Erich Blunt, played by Tom Felton (Harry Potter). Terry's partner, Hildy Mulligan (Kathleen Robertson), helps to uncover the mystery surrounding Blunt but must also tend to her own problems at home as a divorced single mother.

Diggs is best known for his roles in the Broadway musical Rent, the motion picture How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and the television series Private Practice.
