The Burt Reynolds Institute Is Looking For A Few Good Story Tellers For Community Event

Managing Director Donna M. Carbone announced that she is looking for a few good story tellers to put in the spotlight on stage at the Burt Reynolds Institute. Tongues a'Wagging is a new and unique opportunity for residents of Palm Beach County to tell their personal stories to an eager audience. The topic for the first Tongues a'Wagging is A Once and Forever Love - a Valentine's Day special. It will be held on Saturday evening, February 9, 2019, at 7 pm. The cost for tickets is $20.00 and will include a talk back with the storytellers at the end of the evening. There is no charge to submit a story for this event.

In a recent interview, Carbone said, "Words are my oxygen. As an author, I believe that writing is one of the most cathartic... the most healing, self-esteeming building and rewarding activities a person can do. Tongues a'Wagging is dedicated to presenting the most thought provoking, laugh inducing, heart wrenching, blush worthy and honestly memorable stories written and read by the people who lived them. Eight people. Eight stories. Eight minutes each. The purpose is to give people who have always wanted to write a chance to share their life's journey with a wider audience than they would normally have at the family dinner table. By sharing in a public venue, the audience gets to eavesdrop on the kind of conversations people usually have only with themselves."

To be a part of this event, which will undergo a juried selection process, potential participants must submit their 1200 word essay on the topic (A Once and Forever Love) no later than January 10th. The stories must be true and they must be personal. Storytellers must write about themselves - not about someone else. All stories will be edited for time and content. They will be rehearsed prior to the show so that even the most novice public speaker can have their moment in the spotlight without their knees knocking.

Carbone said, "If we receive an avalanche of good stories, then we will hold a second reading on the same topic. If we find that people are hungry for more such events, Tongues a'Wagging will become a regular offering with a different topic each time. I believe that when the evening is over, the audience will be hearing voices, and each one of those voices will have them begging for more."

So... are you curious? You should be. Tongues a'Wagging is a unique offering in our local community. Give yourself a night off from your usual routine. Come out and meet your neighbors. Better yet... become a storyteller! Before the night is over, everyone will be asking how they can get involved.
