Robin Givens has extended her engagement as Roxie Hart in the Broadway company ofChicagoat the Ambassador Theatre through April 16th.
She will return to the Broadway company on Monday, March 6th from a three week stint with the national touring company ofChicago in Detroit. Currently, Michelle DeJean plays Roxie on Broadway; she will return to the national tour on March 7th.
The Broadway company of Chicago also features Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Lillias White as Mama Morton, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine and John O'Hurley as Billy Flynn; the latter also recently extended his engagement through April 16th.
After starting out in modeling, Robin Givens began her career on television on "The Bill Cosby
Show". From there, her TV career has included roles on "Moesha,"
"Diff'rent Strokes," "In the House," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,"
"Cosby," "DAG" as well as numerous appearances on "The Howard Stern
Show". Her most notable television role was that of Darlene Merriman in
the TV sitcom "Head of the Class". TV movies include: "Beverly Hills
Madam," "Michael Jordan: An American Hero," and "Spinning Out of
Control." In 1989, Givens starred opposite Oprah Winfrey in "The Women of
Brewster Place." Film credits include: Boomerang, Head of State, Everything's
Jake, 4-Bidden, Love Chronicles and A Good Night to Die.
Chicago, which opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on November 14th 1996, has reached a run of over 3,850
performances at the Ambassador Theatre (215 W. 49th St.); the show is the longest-running revival in Broadway history. Chicagoreceived
6 1997 Tonys (including Best Revival of a Musical) under the direction
of Walter Bobbie and the choreography of star Ann Reinking. The
revival, based
on Bobbie's stylistically stripped-down Encores! staging, featured
direction and choreography by Bob Fosse in its original 1975
production. Chicago features a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse.
