Photo Flash: Miranda, Longoria Parker and Others UNITE FOR IN THE HEIGHTS
Last Tuesday, April 27, leaders from entertainment, business and culture gathered in the grand lobby of Hollywood's historic Pantages Theatre to Unite For IN THE HEIGHTS, Broadway's 2008 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, which will celebrate its Los Angeles premiere this summer.
Celebrity guest and keynote speakers included director and choreographer Kenny Ortega, who delivered the opening remarks while congratulating and welcoming Lin-Manuel Miranda and IN THE HEIGHTS to the Los Angeles community this summer. Desperate Housewives star and philanthropist Eva Longoria Parker delivered the keynote address for the evening and welcomed Mr. Miranda to the stage for a special Q&A discussion with Ugly Betty actor and L.A. Latino Theatre luminary, Tony Plana. Later that evening, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa met with the Tony Award-winning creator of IN THE HEIGHTS, Lin-Manuel Miranda, to present him with a special Welcome Resolution from the City of Los Angeles. IN THE HEIGHTS, the winner of four 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical as well as the 2008 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album, will celebrate its Los Angeles premiere this summer at the Pantages Theatre. There will be one lower-priced preview performance on Tuesday, June 22, with the official "Opening Night" taking place Wednesday, June 23. The engagement is scheduled for five weeks only through July 25. Tickets for IN THE HEIGHTS are now available online at www.BroadwayLA.org and by phone at 1-800-982-ARTS(2787). Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Pantages Box Office and all Ticketmaster ticket outlets. The Pantages Theatre is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, just east of Vine Street, and the box office is open every day beginning at 10AM. IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. For more information on IN THE HEIGHTS, please visit www.InTheHeightsTheMusical.com. The performance schedule for IN THE HEIGHTS is Tuesday through Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm & 8pm, and Sunday at 1pm & 6:30pm. Tickets range in price from $25 - $85 with premium seating packages also available, although prices are subject to change without notice. The Pantages Theatre is located in Hollywood at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard at Vine Street. For more information, please visit the Pantages Theatre's official website at www.BroadwayLA.org.
