Verdi’s opera will be presented in concert at The Ursuline School in May.
New Rochelle Opera has announced principal casting for its concert performances of Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi. The performances will take place Friday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 17 at 3:00 p.m. at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, New York.
The production will be conducted by Maestro Jason Tramm, Artistic and General Director of New Rochelle Opera.
The principal cast includes Jason Detwiler in the title role, Christina Major as Abigaille, Jeremy Brauner as Ismaele, Brandon Coleman as Zaccaria, and Michelle Detwiler as Fenena.
Premiered in 1842 at La Scala, Nabucco marked Verdi’s first major success and remains known for the chorus “Va, pensiero.” The opera centers on themes of exile, faith, and redemption and is noted for its dramatic vocal writing and large-scale choral scenes.
Presented in concert format, the production will focus on the musical elements of the score, performed by orchestra, chorus, and soloists.
Maestro Tramm said, “Nabucco is more than an opera—it is a testament to the enduring power of faith, resilience, and the human spirit. Verdi's music reminds us that even in moments of exile and uncertainty, hope can rise in breathtaking harmony.”
Founded in 1985, New Rochelle Opera presents grand opera productions and community programming throughout Westchester County and the greater New York region.
