Highwire Improv to Launch Season 24 With Block Party, International Guest
Daniel Maseda's BE GOOD! WITH PAULETTE headlines the season opener at Maryland Art Place.
Highwire Improv is launching its 24th season this weekend with a packed lineup of performances as the Highlandtown-based theater continues nearly six years of bringing live comedy to Baltimore audiences.
The opening weekend begins with Block Party, Highwire's monthly showcase at Maryland Art Place featuring some of the funniest Black improvisers in Baltimore. Blending improv games with audience participation, the show celebrates community through spontaneous comedy.
Also featured during opening weekend is a special appearance by internationally touring performer Daniel Maseda, who brings his acclaimed solo show, Be GOOD! with Paulette, to Highwire on Saturday, July 11 at 8 p.m. Known as the "mildest man imaginable," Maseda has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and venues throughout Europe and the United States.
The opening weekend launches a three-month season of performances at Highwire's home at 400 S. Conkling Street in Baltimore's Highlandtown neighborhood. Artists from Baltimore, Frederick, Washington, D.C., Lancaster and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and New York are scheduled to perform throughout the season.
Upcoming programming will feature a diverse slate of improv formats, including musical improv, the Dropout-inspired game show Improv Jeoparty, a Dungeons & Dragons-themed performance from Oh, Crit!, bilingual improv from Baltimore Bodega, and a special performance on September 4 celebrating the one-year anniversary of The Highwire Center's Highlandtown location.
In addition to its performance schedule, Highwire Improv offers classes, free workshops, community events, and The Thursday Club, a rotating series of drop-in activities designed to welcome performers and audiences alike.
Tickets for most performances are $10. Highwire Improv describes its mission as putting community first, using comedy and improvisation to create an inclusive and welcoming space for performers and audiences throughout the Baltimore area.
