Welcome to the debut of a very special new series on BroadwayWorld.com - four time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein's personal MySpace blog of bringing his brand new musical, A CATERED AFFAIR to Broadway. We'll be exclusively picking up Harvey Fierstein's blog as he shares his first hand reports from rehearsals, to out-of-town tryouts to Opening Night (and beyond).  A CATERED AFFAIR also features a score by John Bucchino and is being directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle. Prior to Broadway, the new musical will play at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre beginning September 20th and then hit the Great White Way at the  Walter Kerr Theatre with previews beginning on begin March 25. The cast includes Broadway favorites Faith Prince, Tom WopatHarvey Fierstein, Leslie Kritzer and Matt Cavenaugh. Group tickets for the show are now on sale...

IT'S HERE - IT'S OPENING NIGHT IN SAN DIEGO

So, obviously, I can't tell you what the critics will think. I can't even tell you what critics will show up! But this is the OLD GLOBE so I am certain they will be aplenty.

Other guests of note will be Debbie Reynolds, the only surviving member of the original movie cast, along with Army Archer and Rosemary Harris and Dan Chayefsky, son of Paddy.

Last night was the OLD GLOBE'S GALA dinner (see photo above), dance and show. We performed for the high roller backers of the theater. The evening was absolutely GORGEOUS, though I don't think the audience had any idea what our show was about. I mean, can you see a sea of mink coats and diamonds really getting a show about a couple who have to decide whether they can afford to rent a tux for a wedding? Well, it was a fabu evening under the stars in any case.

And we awoke to an amazing piece about us in the LA TIMES written by Patrick Pacheco.

So I just had lunch with my family and Jordan Roth's family and Riche Jackson's family. It was very reminiscent of a pre-wedding luncheon. All the "mischpucha" gathered to huddle one last time before the big event. We ate at the legendary Del Coronado Hotel, site of Some Like It Hot. And when we looked up, who was waving to folks from his balcony but Bob Dole. Steve Roth remarked, "I'm surprised you Democrats even recognized him!" HA!!!

Here are a few more photos from the last few days for you to enjoy.

Leslie Kritzer introducing us to her alter ego

And a visit from Bruce Vilanch who just loved the show

So, the next time I write it will be after the reviews are out. Keep your fingers crossed for us, and as always....

STAY TUNED!
