A new Avenue Q contest is offering fans the chance to create a commerical for the hit Broadway musical, which celebrates its 4th Broadway anniversary on July 31st.

"Are you handy with a camera? Do you use the internet for more than just porn? Well if so, then put your artistic genius to work. We are looking for the next Q-mmercial, a 30 second spot in the style of your choice, that captures the essence of Avenue Q. All 30 second video spots will be reviewed and judged and the winner could be featured in the next official Avenue Q advertising campaign," according to notes on the Avenue Q website.

Contestants, after downloading Avenue Q artwork and song clips, will then shoot and edit a 30 second video, submit it to YouTube.com or EyeSpot.com, and submit the URL in an application form.

Submissions will be accepted through September 1, 2006 and the official Q-mmercial winner will be chosen the third week of September.

Avenue Q
blends puppets and people in a charmingly R-rated tale of friendship, love, sex and the search for purpose. The show, which opened on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre on July 31st 2003 and won Tony Awards for Best Book (by Jeff Whitty) and Best Score (by Robert Marx and Jeff Lopez), currently stars Howie Michael Smith, Mary Faber, Evan Harrington, Ann Sanders and Haneefah Wood, as well as original cast members Rick Lyon and Jennifer BarnhartAvenue Q also features Jonathan Root and Matt Schreiber.

The show, which has run for over 1,200 performances, has also been seen in a Las Vegas production and opened on June 28th in London (original cast member Ann Harada is among the stars).
