Toronto Fringe started the Next Stage Theatre Festival 10 years ago to give indie artists an opportunity to take their work to the next level. We also wanted a way to celebrate the Fringe movement throughout the year - a way to make January the new July. Since 2008, over 75,000 patrons have attended NSTF. $495,000 has been returned to the artists that participated.

In just 10 years, NSTF shows have received 25 Dora Mavor Moore nominations. (Click here to read them all.) Artists from the festival have gone on to become major players in Canada's cultural scene, bringing the indie spirit with them. We are so proud to have offered them a platform, a showcase, a next stage.

This year the festival features a "ball busting look at the women who paved the way for Hillary Clinton" (Kawa Ada's The Death of Mrs. Ghandi), a veteran Muppet's puppeteer with a bawdy puppet cabaret that is "not for the kids" (Frank Meschkuleit's My Big Fat German Puppet Show), a group of "dance theatre renegades" (Rock Bottom Movement's MANICPIXIEDREAMGIRLS) and much, much more.
